I agree 100%. I was questioning the poster that said she shouldn't pitch because of the way the umps were calling the strike zone.

Why throw a Freshman to the wolves when you don't have to especially when you have 2 very experienced pitchers. The SEC seems to be the only conference in softball to be doing this. If they continue she will have more time to adjust. Also as someone pointed out she still has comeback fully from a game injury.

This year the SEC seems to have deemed Offense full steam ahead the real rules be damed

Not pitching her because she is hurt is a great reason. Not pitching her because there are 2 better pitchers on the team is a fine reason. But you first said you wouldn't pitch her because of what the umps are doing. If that were the reason she wasn't pitching, that would be a bad reason.

Lol, the dreaded Hippa...Thought you were a a numbers cruncher not a doctor..

I know of what I speak... :whistling:

My Mel has been injured all season (hurt in fall ) and will have shoulder surgery immediately following the conclusion of the season.... She will rehab this summer in Knoxville & will attend summer school.

The brace not helping and was hindering her swing so now they just tape it up....

she pitched against tn state a few weeks ago...a little hurt no sense in using her...if she was healthy she would see a little action in the mid week games but i'd rather her rest and get healthy than throwing her out there

And that was my comment to this.

Why force her with the injury to try and throw strike with they way SEC Umps are mutilating the Strike Zone, It will hurt the SEC in Postseason play outside the SEC

I just don't understand what the umps have to do with it. If she's hurt she shouldn't pitch regardless of how the umps are calling the strike zone. If she wasn't hurt, the umps would have no bearing on whether or not she pitched.

We get it now YOU are an umpire -- case closed please ! CalifLadyVolFan is a players parent and if its her hip she cannot pitch umps or not -- let it heal ( this after all the other speculation as to the injury and pitching should clear everything up)

Season-ending injury to Erin Gabriel has hurt Lady Vols' pitching rotation

Freshman pitcher out for rest of season

Gabriel (5-1, 2.66 ERA) made her last appearance on April 2. The two-time Gatorade softball player of the year in the state of Ohio suffered a torn labrum in her hip that required surgery and is out for the rest of the season. Tarango (6-1, 1.47 ERA), meanwhile, is filling in at first base because starter Melissa Davin suffered a hand injury against Missouri last weekend and is likely sidelined for the SEC tournament
