I know as TN fan you're challenged, This was an absolute display of not how to bball. It was a horribly played game, lack of basic fundamentals from start to finish. It was like and often worse than the slop you see when teams empty the bench and even play the walk ons
Some folks are acting like they haven't seen an ugly basketball game before, and somehow "pretty" basketball equals good basketball. We have some players now that play tough and a little bit nasty, and I love it.
That was good, tough basketball, and I loved it. Not pretty, but the kind of gutsy basketball that wins championships. We made them work for everything they got. Out worked them for rebounds and loose balls, and actually played above our current skill level. Texas missed a few chippies because we had physically imposed ourselves on them to the extent allowed by the rules of the game. Not cheap, but tough and physical at every opportunity.
I wonder how much of this is Bridget Gordon's handywork?
There's still a lot of progress that we can make with refining skills, offensive crispness, and defensive helpline/rotations, but daggummit I believe we're on the right track.
I'm about to say something I haven't said in 4 years, "well done, Holly!"
I argued a while ago that I feared Holly's early success was mostly a byproduct of having Pat's players and Pat's system. We seemed to get worse as a program as her reign went on. This is the first year early going we seem discernibly better. The question is, if true, WHY? What changed? Saying better players is a cop out and probably not even true. We've had arguably better players.in her first 3 years the LVs did dominant weaker comp and had many blow out wins. It was mainly the last 2 years that we saw this frustrating trend of the LVs playing down to the competition or not "showing up" for a game.
I think I either did a bad job expressing my thoughts or you just interpreted them wrong. I put the Freshman players as a PLUS. I think they are collectively very good. I just worry that as a basketball program and system that we have generally been relying too much on Freshman. You win with upperclassman and their leadership. I remember when Bjorkland was getting starting time as a Freshman, it got a lot of attention because most Freshman didn't get to start. Lately it's become the norm for the program. I'll feel a lot better about our program when we have amazing Freshman like we do now BUT they aren't starting because the upper classman are even better and more experienced.I am sorry you are so nervous and concerned about our freshmen guards and our power forward Davis. I think most people, though, are incredibly excited to have this infusion of talent, drive, and a team-first attitude. If that is a red flag, bring on the red flags.
Maybe. I just hope we aren't in for sticker shock if they aren't as good as we think they may be. That's my big worry about the schedule: it may make the team look better than they actually are. I HOPE they are as good as we hope they are, but the schedule so far hasn't really tested them much. But, like I said, the table is set to be tested many time over, so it's not the end of the world that they didn't have some tougher games earlier.I think this schedule is great!

Sorry facts hurt. The game was a horrible display of bball. Not one of you can disute it so you're just bad it's been pointed out. The worst display of bball of any top 25 game this year by far, not even close.
LOL.,,It's the refs fault it looked like a CYO game between 10 years old, that are not capable of fundamentals.
It's not jitters,,it's bad play and bad coaching. Each team hadn't a clue how to run a set. You might want to watch the replay w/o the rose tinted glasses, but watching that debacle would qualify as cruel and usual punishment to anyone that knows basketball.

The bad thing about it.....it was a UCONN troll! They must be getting bored over at the Boneyard! I heard they had quite an extensive thread regarding our game against Texas! Not the outcome many were expecting!!!
They seen the parade we were having and tried to come and rain on it....not today!!!

You know if they scared, they just need to say they scared. 😁
I haven't commented much since the end of last season because my enthusiasm was pretty tattered and I was having trouble seeing the silver lining. Even with us supposed to be having a great incoming Freshman class, I feel like we've had great classes before, so why would this season be any different? I haven't kept as close of an eye on the team this year as I usually do although I have seen a few games and I went to the Texas game and had great seats - 105, row 11.
Even though the team is 10-0 and we got a great win against #2 ranked Texas, I hesitate to say the "team is back" as I am hearing many people say because of a few problems, but first, here's the positives I noticed from the game and season in general:
