Still amazed and disgusted at the offense of our women. They still refuse to feed the ball inside and continue taking wild jump shots from outside. I thought Coach Harper would have corrected this.
you've been paying attention to the right influences.
During warmups I saw TK shooting one step out from the low block.
There are three areas that I train my kids to attack when against a 3-2
The reason, is that those three areas of the zone,, the defense has think about who's spot is it?
- Cutting to the logo section of the mid-high paint and stopping for a catch>pivot>shoot or pass
- One step out from the low block (We practice shooting the "Dominique Wilkin's bank-shot from here)
- the arc
When you get in the middle you create confusion of who's man, because you are everybody's man
when you're at the one-step out area you could be any of 3 of the defender's responsibilities
and the arc extends the defense so they can't pack the zone
Adding to this:
4. When you get into one of those "gaps", force a double team. This creates bigger GAPS and opportunities for off-the-ball players to cut.
5. I always like someone running the baseline. You run corner to corner behind the defense (where they can't see you without looking away from the ball). This player is looking for gaps to receive a pass off the previously mentioned double team and pops out for the corner three on ball reversal.
6. Rotation/reversal is huge. Every time you rotate by passing around the perimeter the zone the defense is stressed and tends to "pack it in" and get lazy on closeouts. It also allows the posts to get prime position on the opposite low block ahead of the reversal. If you can force a double team in one of the gaps, kick out, then rotate quickly, the defense must scramble and on complete reversal (usually pass #4 after the double team) someone is wide open.
7. REBOUND. Blockout responsibilities are difficult in a zone, so go get the ball. Especially since the offensive spacing should be designed to overload a zone, there should be multiple players with a free run at the rebound.
