Game Recap: Soccer | October 04, 2024
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Jaida Thomas tallied her 40th career goal in her first start of the year Friday night against Missouri to give the Lady Vols a 1-0 win.

Thomas is only one of two Volunteers to bag 40 goals in her collegiate career and currently sits second all-time in program history behind Kylee Rossi (43).

The Dallas, Texas, native also recorded her 12th career game-winner and is currently fourth-all time in school history in career game-winning goals.

Tennessee (7-1-3), also tallied their seventh clean sheet on the year, which extends UT's current unbeaten streak to 10 matches and home unbeaten streak to eight.

The Big Orange also controlled most of the game with a 72 percent possession rate and held Missouri (3-7-2) to just seven total shots.

The Lady Vols got off to a hot start offensively, registering seven corners and five shots in the first half.

In the 21st minute, UT found a breakthrough off a corner, after a ball that found Ally Brown. Brown poked the ball across goal to give Thomas a tap-in for her first goal of the season.

The second half was the standard defensive onslaught the Lady Vols have produced a majority of the season, holding the Tigers to only three shots while also allowing only one corner kick.

Thomas led the team in shots with two as Reese Mattern, Mac Midgley, Leah Klurman, Muriel Kroflin and Jasmine Boggslogged one apiece.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols head on the road to Fayetteville to face Arkansas, Oct. 10th at 7:30 p.m. E.T..

Arkansas will be tough. Not just because they're good, but they routinely sell out of season tickets and have crowds of 3,000+. Will be a real test of our defense, anemic offense, and mental fortitude. If we can survive that, the rest of the season might seem like a cakewalk.
The standings after last night. Don’t forget Tennessee, Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina all have a game in hand. So theoretically, a win at Florida would have us sitting alone in third, and a win over Arky puts us ahead of them in second.

Considering I think someone picked us to finish ninth, we are definitely over performing, which is what you'd like to see.

Congrats to LVFL Shae Yanez playing in goal for the first ever win in the WSL for Crystal Palace. (She even kept a clean sheet)

I am pretty new to the Lady Vol soccer fan base (started following closely after beating Memphis this year) and was wondering if someone could give a breakdown of players who have stood out other than big names like Mattern, Runyon, Woods, etc. As well as names that have not shown up as much as we were expecting and should keep an eye out for. S/O to mad for keeping this forum goin'

Just my opinion but thus far Ally Brown (CB) has been the team's mvp to date. Ally Zazzara (GK) might be a close second. Mattern is always dangerous, but needs to avoid unnecessary fouls that earn her a quick yellow card. Midgley (M), Woods (M), and Bridenstine (OB) have all had stand out games as well.
