KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 12 Tennessee is headed to Columbia for a Top-25 matchup at No. 19 South Carolina on Sunday. The game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPNU.

The Vols and Gamecocks each enter the contest with a 4-1 record in SEC play.

UT is 11-1-0 on the year with its only setback coming against Arkansas in the SEC opener. In their most recent outing, the Vols defeated Florida at home, 2-0.

South Carolina is 9-3-0 overall and fresh off a 2-1 loss at Ole Miss on Thursday. The Gamecocks were picked to finish third in the SEC as voted on by the league's coaches in the preseason poll.

UT owns a 13-10-3 all-time record against USC. The last time Tennessee faced South Carolina was Nov. 6, 2020, when the Vols took a 1-0 victory at home to clinch an SEC East division championship.


UP NEXT: Tennessee will return home to host Mississippi State at 8 p.m. ET on Friday. The game will be streamed on SECN+.

FASTEST TO 11: This is the quickest any Tennessee has made it to 11 wins. The previous best start to a season was 2017 in which UT managed nine straight wins, but they were followed by a tie and a loss.

BY THE NUMBERS: Tennessee has allowed the fewest goals in the SEC (6), has recorded the most shutouts (8), and has the best overall win percentage (.920).

PROTECTING THE NET: Before giving up a goal at Arkansas, UT's defense tallied 633 scoreless minutes. Through 12 games, the back line has limited opponents to a combined 6 goals, 45 shots on goal and 22 corner kicks.

DIPASUPIL TAKES THE LEAD: With a goal and an assist against Florida, junior Claudia Dipasupil took the lead in total points with 17. She has six goals and five assists on the season.

EVERYONE IS DANGEROUS: Thirteen different Vols have scored at least one goal this season, and 13 of UT's 35 goals have been scored by players coming off the bench.

SECOND HALF TEAM: Tennessee is outscoring opponents 23-3 after halftime, has scored seven goals during the final 10 minutes of regulation and has landed two golden goals this season.

AGGRESSIVE OFFENSIVELY: UT is first in the nation in corner kicks per game (9.42), third in total shots per game (22.50), and is fifth in shots on goal per game (10.50). With 35 goals on the season, the Vols are 12th in the nation in scoring offense at 2.92 goals per game.

FINDING THE NET: Through 12 games, UT has scored 35 goals, surpassing the total number of goals scored by Tennessee over 15 games during the 2020-21 season (30).

UT Lands Three On Top Drawer Soccer Freshmen Top 100

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Three Tennessee freshmen were named to the Top Drawer Soccer Freshmen Top 100 list released this week.

Midfielder Taylor Huff checked in at No. 9, midfielder Jordan Fusco ranked No. 32, and defender Claire Rain landed at No. 58.

Huff has started in 11 of UT's 12 games, scoring six goals and logging three assists. She is currently in a three-way tie with junior Claudia Dipasupil and redshirt-sophomore Jaida Thomas for most goals scored. She was named SEC Freshman of the week on Sept. 27 after finding the net in the 86th minute against No. 11 Auburn to force the game into overtime and then logging an assist on UT's first goal in the 2-1 double-overtime win at Missouri.

Fusco has started five contests, racking up three goals and four assists in 645 minutes of action. She earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors on Aug. 23 after starting her collegiate career with goals in back-to-back games.

Rain has logged the most playing time of the three, starting 11 of 12 games and playing 878 minutes at left back. She played a key role in each of UT's eight shutouts and in setting the program-best shutout streak of 633 minutes to start the season. She scored UT's only goal at Arkansas and has dished out three assists on the season.

Huff appeared to be the only one who wanted to score. What a missile she can hit. Funny last game they said she had been very disappointed in her play this year, that some high standards.

No. 12 UT Wins Fifth Straight SEC Match At No. 19 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 12 Tennessee picked up its fifth straight SEC win on Sunday, taking down No. 19 South Carolina on the road, 1-0.

It's the first time UT has managed five straight SEC wins since 2007, when the team went 8-2-1 in the SEC before making it to the NCAA Sweet 16.

UT's win broke South Carolina's home unbeaten streak in conference play dating back to 2018.

Tennessee improved to 12-1-0 on the season and 5-1 in SEC play. USC falls to 9-4-0 on the year and 4-2 in conference games.

Freshman Taylor Huff put in the game winner for Tennessee, while junior Lindsay Romig made four saves on the day to secure UT's ninth shutout of the season.

"The margin for error between wins and losses in some of these games is so slight. Being responsible and limiting chances is a big deal, and for the most part, we did that today. Hats off to our kids for earning two shutouts on the weekend. That's not easy in this league," said Tennessee head coach Brian Penksy.

"This is a tough place to play, as is evidenced by them not losing a home SEC game here since 2018. Our kids were pretty determined to end that streak. And then of course there's Taylor Huff just being Taylor Huff. To win big games like this, you need players to step up and make big plays, and this is the second time against a high-quality opponent where Taylor has come up huge for us. That was one heck of a shot."

The match was a back-and-forth affair in the first half with both teams managing four shots, and Tennessee logging two saves to USC's one.

South Carolina got a chance early in the form of a penalty kick 15 minutes in, but Jyllissa Harris missed wide right.

Huff got a couple chances midway through the half, but couldn't land either, and the game went to half tied, 0-0.

Huff got two good looks early in the second half, rocketing a shot on goal from inside the box four minutes in, and then beating three defenders before ripping a shot high and toward the corner at the 61-minute mark, but Hinz was able to make saves on both.

UT nearly scored again in the 70th minute when Mackenzie George beat a South Carolina defender in a foot race to get off a great cross, finding Huff on the six-yard box, but the shot missed wide left.

Tennessee's pressure paid off in the 87th minute when Jaida Thomas found Huff in the offensive third and Huff blasted a shot into the net from 25 yards out to give UT the win on the road.

FRESHMAN PHENOM: The goal moves Taylor Huff's goal total to a team-leading seven. She sits at 17 in total points, one point shy of the team leader Claudia Dipasupil.

DIPASUPIL DISHING: Junior Claudia Dipasupil recorded her sixth assist of the season against South Carolina. She has six goals and six assists on the year to lead UT in total points (18).

PROTECTING THE NET: The win against the Gamecocks is UT's second straight shutout and ninth of the season. It's the most shutouts Tennessee has recorded since 2018 when they managed a program-best-tying 12.

Loved yesterday when they sent Fusco flying across the field and they give her the yellow card when she wound up hitting the SC girl. Huff gave us the win but Raines had a really good day too. Huff is like if we can't get anything going and the game is winding up she just seems to say I'll take it. It was a beautiful assist by Thomas catching her in full stride to hammer it home.

Taylor Huff Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tennessee freshman midfielder Taylor Huff has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Huff kept the pressure on at No. 19 South Carolina, accounting for all four of the Vols' shots on goal and landing the game-winner from 25 yards out in the 87th minute to give UT a 1-0 victory.

With seven goals on the season, she currently leads the team in goals scored and is second in total points with 17, trailing team leader Claudia Dipasupil by one point.

It is Huff's second SEC Freshman of the Week honor, earning the title previously on Sept. 27 after logging a goal in the 86th minute against No. 11 Auburn to force overtime and recording an assist in UT's double-overtime win at Missouri. Fellow freshman and former Internationals SC teammate Jordan Fusco also earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors on Aug. 23.

No. 12 Tennessee will continue conference play this week, hosting Mississippi State in a 7 p.m. ET contest on Friday that will be streamed on SECN+.
