Lady Vols vs. Georgia Game Thread

Every game is definitely a new adventure since absolutely nothing seems to carry over from previous games or practices and they seem to step on the court as a blank slate every game. Been going on for several seasons.

Someone the other day said its 50 First Dates with the Lady Vols and sadly, that's my new theme for this season.

if they lose to Alabama on Wednesday, Holly is gone! Mark it down! Even Phil will not stomach that.

Why would that be? He's stomached the last three times we lost to Bama, which I believe were the first three. Fourth time a charm?

At some point, even the most ardent Holly defenders, has to admit, this circus has gone on long enough....Holly is the ringmaster, and under her guidance, has turned this once storied women's college basketball program into an almost unrecognizable team of Lady Vols.....

You can't help someone until they want it

I think Fulmer will stomach a lot and will take several more losses and a finish near the bottom of the league to even get a conversation going. It is sad that Tennessee has to continue to be loyal to a Coach that has underachieved her talent for so many seasons. I know everyone is fired up and should be, but anyone thinking this thing will end soon is mistaken. She will be given every opportunity to turn this season around and my guess is anything like 20 wins will be totally acceptable.

Holly's not going anywhere, unless she chooses to leave on her own. No matter how poorly they play.

Oh believe it or not this year she will be gone because she's not going to make it NCAA tournament I guarantee u that now.

I also think it's possible they miss the tournament. Even then, I don't think they fire Holly. They'll give her 1 more year, and she'll win 20 games, be ranked somewhere between 18-25, lose quietly in the 2nd round of the NCAAT in 2020, and cash her $675k check for another year.

The only way she goes is if recruiting dries up, and right now there are too many 5-star recruits willing to flush their basketball careers down the toilet to ensure that Holly gets paid. Sad, but true.

Maybe but I think a losing record in conference, which is becoming a real possibility, would be the end of the line. I think here limited extension was a kind of probationary period but that would allow her not be seen as a lameduck coach would hurt recruiting. But this string of results is definitely moving her closer to an end date. Without a dramatic turnaround (which we did see in DeShields' first season), I am not sure she is lasting past this year.

A losing record in conference is more likely than not unless the turning point is right now. A L to Bama-- and four demoralizing Ls in a row-- is going to be hard to overcome. This team doesn't have a player like DeShields or Nared. They're going to have to find ways to win as a team.

Holly's limited coaching abilities can be summed up in Davis's dribble with one second left.....Pitiful.

Did Holly not tell her squad there is only one second left? Don't dribble......SHOOT!!!!!!

Mr. F. might as well hire me cause all I need to do is stand on side line, using wat program already built to recruit and make wat Holly is making. I'll actually do far than Holly atleast tell my team it's a second left, do not dribble.

You're more optimistic than I am. Given how weak the SEC is this year, I think it's reasonable to let her go if she can't stay above 50-50 in conference play.

One thing I will say is that the teams that do beat us can't recover. Ole Miss over Ky and Florida over Missouri held you know who to 4 points. I wonder if she elbowed anybody in that game.

As I have said before until we gain a sense of urgency in regards to the importance of each possession and free throws we will always be close but not quite there. We lost 2 games this week maybe three because of our inability to hit free throws and reduce turnovers. Holly is trying as she has reduced the running in an attempt to control turnovers. I love this team they have considerable talent, but talent alone will not get it done. The players have to be able to use basic arimethic to see if you TO 20 times and you are shooting 45% 18 points you could have scored and at least 14 points the other way. 32 points! And we are losing by 10 or less.

The FTs are really frustrating; there was a stretch in the 4th quarter where the LVs got stops on 3 straight possessions and were fouled on their ensuing possessions. GA had a 6 point lead and was in the bonus. The LVs missed 6 straight FTs. Even if they had just cut the lead to two (4 out of 6 which is their season average), they game would have had a different feel down the stretch.

The bigger issue in some ways is blowing a 17 point lead with their horrific 3rd quarter but they have easily won these last 3 games with decent FT shooting.

Do anyone remember the lineup that gave the lady vols a 17pt lead at half ?

Starters minus Cheridene, plus Kasi. Looks like Rae, Mimi and Jazmin all played in the 2nd quarter and helped Tennessee maintain a double digit lead.

Madtown, anyone can twist and turn these games around any way they like, the fact that so much is happening on the court with chemistry, fundamental errors and lack of any real offensive and defensive aim, shows a impotent coach at the head of the helm.
Even the players appear to be more frustrated and puzzled than we are. Analysis at this point is way beyond the scope of any sane
mind , with the exception of replacing the Coach. Playing coach from your couch or the bleachers only means we're in dire
need of NEW COACHES.PERIOD.

I fully agree that the LVs' offensive execution and defensive intensity needs a lot of improvement (though the LVs can be decent in stretches). But the statistical reality is that, despite these systemic problems, the LVs could have won their last three games with just average FT shooting.

They could easily be winning "ugly" but, by taking so many points off the board via missed FTs, they have put themselves into a deep hole. In the end, it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise but I always want to see the LVs win (in any manner) regardless of who is coaching.
