The Lady Vols played some outstanding defense against Missouri. I have to give Holly's her dues the team had a great defensive game plan especially defending the three and Sophie Conningham. This was the best the Lady Vols have looked this year.

Holly took out Russell, Diamond, Graves and Nored near the end of the second quarter and Missouri cut into the lead. The girls came back in the last two quarters and increased the lead instead of allowing Missouri to mount a comeback and then play for their lives . This was great game for the Lady Vols. I am proud of them.Holly's best lineup was tonight's starting lineup. I still have issues with Russell's like of aggressiveness and standing around watching other team mates trying to rebound. She allows herself to be pushed around by smaller players. If she does not improve she will be a liability when we play a team with an aggressive post. She will get eaten alive.

I watched 85% of it. Back and forth with it and the walking dead. I thought what I saw they played pretty darn good.

I thought Andraya Carter had maybe her best game...hit a couple of timely 3 point shots, played really outstanding defense. Freshman Middleton was very aggressive, driving to the rim and also hitting a perimeter 3 point shot. Nared played well, nailing a 3 and also tough around the rim. Mercedes hopefully will use some of her free time away from social media to improve her free throw shooting and to work with Dean on overcoming her relentless habit of putting the ball on the floor where opposing guards can strip the ball away...please! Reynolds had 5 defensive boards, zero turnovers in 23 minutes of play, and hit a couple of nice 12-15 footers. Graves was aggressive and got to the charity line where she went 6-6 on the night. Diamond rebounds very well also and puts lots of pressure on opposing teams trying to defend her outstanding offensive skill set. The team seemed much more focused than in previous games, good effort on both ends of the floor.

Missouri was like 0 for 10 on 3 point shots the first half. Poor shooting made the defense look a little better. Lady Vols also need to practice shooting free throws. Missouri overrated.

Bored is/was the missing link. Her play will also get better as she continues to recover from her broken wrist.

They played OK. Missouri is over ranked but think they have a shot at making the tournament. Let's see how we defend the three against ND. Reynolds has regressed from last year. Cooper playing less is helping. She is a great talent but doesn't know how to run the point in college. Don't think Nared is the missing link but she is helping. The missing link is getting Cooper and Reynolds less playing time. Those two need to learn to value possessions. Team still needs a lot of work on passing. Most improved players are Nared, Middleton, Dunbar and Carter from last year.

Kudos to Carter for her play last night. She did pretty well for being sick. She was throwing up at half time but still was playing well. I was surprised at the box score for rebounds. Watching the game I would have sworn we were being out rebounded badly. Overall it was a good game against a so-so team. I think Mizzou believed in their hype. That group played with a mean attitude or tried to. I was glad to see the Lady Vols put them in their place. We will have to play better to compete with the better teams. There are glimpses of good stuff but for the most part it is fleeting. Congrats to the team for the win, keep it up.

Missouri was way to slow in the quick twitch muscle department to match up with the speed our girls have. Simple Biology.

Yes plus Mizzou is mostly one dimensional. Stop their 3 point shot and you stop them. Not very difficult to defend.

Fire Holly, oh wait they won...good coach give her a raise...unless they loose again then FIRE HOLLY

Let us not throw a party just yet and crown Holly one of the top ten coaches in America. One game is not an omen of the future. If she can build on what I saw last night, we got something. I was actually excited to see Holly coaching from the sidelines instead of walking around with her arms folded.

Some of us may want to be a buzz kill and talk about Missouri being overrated, which I think is correct, however, they are much better than the cupcakes we barely beat. We were out rebound due the lack of physicality in the post. That really needs to be addressed, because MSU, TA&M, USC and Kentucky are very physical. We really need Jones because she does not have a problem being physical, of course with her we have the concussion issue.

Mizzou had 14 offensive rebounds, 15 second chance points, and 36 points in the paint. Mizzou outdid the LV's in offensive rebounds and points in the paint. Your eyes didn't really deceive you - they were more effective inside than they were outside.

Regarding the attitude - Mizzou was needlessly physical. The game was rougher than it needed to be. I'm not sure what was behind all the elbows, hip checks, and yapping they did.

I enjoyed watching the game last night and I hope to see similar performances in the future. This is what I expected from our ladies when they play a team that is inferior to them. Now, can we maintain this level of play throughout the reminder of the season? Good work by the lady vols and the coaching staff.

sitting here re-watching the 1st half lets me concentrate on how nasty the mizz u "ladies" went about their play. reminds me of how Vandy used to play when they were actually a challenge to UT. Tenn certainly needed rib pads and mouth guards last night. Sophie C needed to be smacked upside the head a few times, imho. And her sister was worse.

I thought we did what we were supposed to do. The 1st, 3rd, and 4th quarters looked like the Lady Vols that we have come to love. My thoughts:

1. The bench needs to get 'more complete.' It was clear we slipped when the bench came in last night.
Dunbar = has to improve defensively in the post. It's a matter of getting to a final four or not. if she is going to do this "4" thing. She missed a rebound and fouled the player to get an 'and-one'. USC will eat her alive in the post. It's just a matter of boxing out.
Cooper = I saw more good in her last night than bad. I recall 2 times last night she received an outlet pass and took it down the floor and started to attack the rim with 3 defenders on her, and she dribbled the ball out and started the offense. What she is learning is, in high school she could dribble into 5 players and still score, she is starting to learn, she can't do that in Division I. I have a feeling she will be a settled PG by SEC tourney time. What I'm most afraid of is she could follow in the footsteps of Reynolds.
Middleton = difference maker hands down for the bench.
Reynolds = okay game for her. She was very vocal on the floor when she was in. I think coming off the bench is good for her at this time. Glad to see her rebound!

2. Free throw shooting
I was so happy to see us get to the line finally and be aggressive

3. Assists/Rebounds
Big indicator that we are not where we still need to be.
8 Assist, 13 To's.
Rebound margin +3

Quality win (by the margin) if we played this game a month ago, I think we would of lost, we are not the same team we were a month ago. I'm pleased with the results, still work to be done. Here's to forward progress! :good!:

Bash, Middleton, and DeShields are the "bad asses" of the team I noticed last night. Bashaara has always had a tough mentality that I loved about her. If Jones wasn't hurt I would include her as well. They're the "rougher" ones of the team, I love it!

That might have been true in the past but I'm not so sure about this edition. They took it to the hoop and had some success plus they went in the paint and created a lot of opportunities but just missed some shots. Their go-to shot may still be the 3 pointer but they are not as one dimensional this year from what I have seen. I think this was a better win that some would have us believe and I'll take a win every day of the week no matter who we play.

middleton got knocked on her ass by Sophie C in the paint, should probably been a flagrant foul on her and the ref called Middleton for the foul. unfreakingbelievable!
