Lady Vols ?

interesting thread, here is my :twocents:

I root for all Vol teams, if I see something in the news about any one of our teams, I make an effort to read the papers.

I've lived in Knoxville for 10 years and have been to one women's bball game where in the same time I've been to all but 3 home football games and countless men's bball games.

The women's game doesnt suit my cup of tea, probably never will. Doesn' t mean I don't like them.

As far as the lesbian topic goes well, maybe this thread should end up in the pub or the political parlor, because it would end up being a political discussion.

I personnally love watching the Lady Vols basketball. I think they play with intensity. Yeah the sport is more on the ground, but It more of true basketball then the mens game. The mens have become nothing but a fast paced dunk contest. Most of the time they are too focused on making the other player look bad then on scoring and winning. Im not just talking UT mens just mens basketball period. Because Womens is slower they have to have more technique and follow the rules more closely. Just my Opinion!

I'm a VOL FAN regardless of the sport. I prefer football, basketball (men's and women's), baseball, and track. I know the Vols had one of the country's top track teams for awhile. The Lady Vols are probably ranked among the top 5 teams in
women's basketball the country over the past decade and maybe 2 decades.

Ruslt, the mens game in the NBA is a fast paced dunk contest, I disagree with you on the mens college game especially because you can play a zone.

Professional bball league for women.

FUNDED BY THE NBA......... IT IS LOSING MONEY LEFT AND RIGHT.

Ill agree with that the WNBA is funded by the NBA. I can't say Ive ever watched a WNBA game.

I usually watch the finals, but that's about it. I don't care for the WNBA, but then again, I don't like the NBA. Nothing is more pure than the college game. The student atheletes (most of them anyway) play for pride, and that's what makes it special.

Well, i root for all UT teams and hope they all do well, after all, the more that do well, the better for the University in the long run. And besides, if your going to have a women's athletic dept, like we do, then you might as well be the best in the land at something...and they are...Pat Summit is the A. Rupp or D. Smith of Women's BBall, so kudos to her and that program.

But that doesn't mean i watch each and every Lady Vols game....i'll watch in the final four and NC game should they get there...but B Ball in general isn't my game, so i don't catch all the Men's games' either....
Football is king for me.

But jeez JMX....lighten up dude. For someone that could care less, you sure have a lot of opinions on the subject.

Well, I don't sit around and compare football, baseball, and other UT sports. Each has it's own rules and level of competition. If ever there was a time to jump on the UT Women's BB Team's bandwagon - it's now.

Realize, they are 8-0 and have beaten 4 top 25 teams. Who cares how they compare to men's basketball. It's a completely different sport. But regardless, this team is special and are leaving some jaws on the floor already this year. I'm no huge basketball fan. But, whatever the sport, when your college team is dominating like this, break out the pom-poms boys.

College football is about the only team sport that I watch other than the NCAA men's b-ball tourney and World Cup soccer once every four years. I also watch a little NFL but that is more a by-product of hanging out with friends on Sundays. Personally, women's basketball interests me about as much as watching paint dry. :snoring:

Well at least it is SOMETHING to watch till football season rolls around. That's how I started out, just using the Lady Vols as a filler in the off-season. Then I got HOOKED and now I follow the LV's almost as avidly as the football team.

I did say team sport. Outside the football season I follow golf and tennis, especially the majors in both sports. Another nice option is getting outside and enjoying God's creation a little more.

Women's Basketball will never "catch up" with Men. Men's hoops evolve over time as well and therefore they will always stay ahead of women....Plus men are more gifted athletically than women and that is a fact of life folks, not a sexist put down. Comparing women's basketball to the men's game is like comparing a Krystal Burger and a Steak from a fancy restaraunt.
Don't tell me there isn't a "they could beat the men" mentality, because I've experienced it first hand.
Also, it's a seperate Athletic Department, so I don't feel guilty not supporting them.
And on the WNBA comment.....That league has almost folded every year, but they stay funded by David Stern and the NBA. That league loses money every year and that is a FACT.

Dude, you've got a gender thing going on and it has no place on the board. The Lady Vols are awesome and they certainly deserve the support of every Tennessee fan.

I don't particular like certain sports as well as others, so I don't watch them much...but I don't sit around and criticize them. If the student athlete wears the orange and white, I am a major supporter.

Forget the gender thing man, it's not classy nor tactful these days. The point is not to compare men's and women's sports, but to support the Vol athletes period!!!!!!!

Who said the Lady Vols had the mentality of thinking they could beat the mens team?  The Lady Vols are a class act on and off the court.  And if you think no one cares about women's basketball then you are clueless.  It might not make Sportscenter headlines but it is popular enough to have a professional league.  I respect the fact that you don't like women's basketball and thats fine.  But to say things that aren't true to justify your feelings is a little pathetic.

Lacrosse and soccer have professional leagues. Does that make them popular?

Yes...men ans women sports are different. Just like, if we had a womens football team coached by Pat, they would have hit somebody!!!!!!!!!!

I don't like women's basketball because it just doesn't interest me. I find it boring....no offense, but women simply look like fish out of water playing basketball. I also don't like the Lady Vol mentality of thinking they could beat the Vol hoops team. Anyone that thinks that is clueless. Also, on a national level, no one gives 2 craps about women's basketball.
I don't like the blue that the lady vols wear and they are an entirely different athletic dept. They pad their attendence with girl scouts and boys&girls club type stuff. Also, if you go to the game it's all old people, lesbians, and Families with small children.
I'd like to see Candace Parker dunk on a man :eek:lol:

At first I didn't think I'd dignify this with a response and stretch out the thread. Upon closer review, it's just too absurd to let pass without a resounding BOOOOOO!

Well MR I DON'T HAVE A CLUE, Parker has Dunk on a man. Also for your pathetic Info That BLUE is part of the UT colors. Seems to me the women's Athletic Dept outperfoms the men's 7 days a week. Check out the SEC Titles won the last 5 years. The women have out performed the men. I hope to God you never get married or have a daughter.

Exactly! I'd hate for anybody -- male or female -- who would spew such bile to ever have a daughter. She'd be raised as a second-class citizen.

So now you're a woman hater if you don't bow to the LadyVols? Give it a rest. I don't know who goes to the games because I never watch them, live or on television. I have never even watched a women's NCAA final or a women's olympic basketball game. Therefore, I cannot speak to the truth or falsity of Jmx's assertions about attendance. I do think that the LadyVols probably would have a hard time beating just about any college men's team in the country but that does not mean I hate women. Everyone seems a little edgy. This will be a tough month with our season being over and not much to talk about so let's all just try and get along. :huggy: :air_kiss: :huggy: :air_kiss:

Outperforms? Have you seen the revenue numbers? You appear to be using the same accounting methods as Ken Lay and Dennis Kozlowski.

Its called homophobia.

Although its not my cup of tea, I don't go up to someone and ask them "Are you gay or are you a lesbian, well if you are, I can't associate with you , I need to go back to my cave". I know alot of nice normal people that are probably gay, there friendly and intelligent, educated. I have a wife and children, but I am not a judgmental type person.

]I would agree but the problem is all the inbreds who inhabit this state, especially in East Tenneessee and the southern part of Middle TN, have screwed up the gene pool to the point that we just don't raise 'em anymore. Maybe some of these people moving from California to work at the new Nissan hq will have some kids who know how to play good football.

Perhaps it's too much to expect someone from Brentwood to understand the qualitative difference between simply not being interested in a team and savagely attacking one of the Vol Nation's proudest assets, their fans and just over half of the population.

But it's no surprise that you'd come to Jmx's defense since you were roundly criticized for posting that nonsense in November about East Tennessee and Southern Middle Tennessee being populated with "inbreds."
