Lane Kiffin was on Bruce Murray's show on Mad Dog radio last Thursday, as part of a four day media tour. Bruce mostly lofted softball questions and didn't follow up on any of Lane's answers. Here are the highlights of what I heard (would have posted that day but just now got computer access):
- Lane sounds like he has marbles in his mouth when he speaks.
- Lane said he doesn't consider his staff accountable for any of the USC sanctions, even though many occurred when he was on the staff, because neither he nor any of his current staff were identified by name in the NCAA report.
- He said he sacrificed personal reputation by the things he said while coaching at Tennessee in order to bring much needed attention to the program (I am so glad he made this personal sacrifice for the good of our program). He went on to say that he doesn't need to do that at USC because their reputation brings the right players to the school.
- He said he's learned to answer questions better
- He said he got a few death threats and had police protection during the last days at Tennessee, but that he considered that the result of just a few misguided (my word, not his) fans
- He sees playing the Pac-12 championship game at a home site as a 50-50 proposition. He likes that it will mean a sellout, but he doesn't like that it could mean the championship is decided in bad weather in the north (Washington, Oregon).
