Largest Fan Bases?

Yeah I've also wondered that about Nebraska. I know the tradition is there and all but I rarely see or have even met many Nebraska fans and I've been and lived all over the US.

i assure you that virtually every current or former nebraska resident is a fan. of course the state isn't that big.

Easily top 5 most loyal, devoted fan bases. Not sure how large of a fan base they have though.

Most of the FSU bandwagoners from the '90s have disappeared.
Nebraska's fanbase is quite large.

They are college football's 4th most valuable team per Forbes, ranked behind Penn State and ahead of Alabama.

1. Texas
2. Notre Dame
3. Penn State
4. Nebraska
5. Alabama
6. Florida
7. LSU
8. Ohio State
9. Georgia
10. Oklahoma
11. Michigan
12. South Carolina
13. Tennessee
14. Auburn
15. USC
16. Michigan State
17. Arkansas
18. Texas A&M
19. Wisconsin
20. Oklahoma State

I don't doubt that. I know they're passionate and their games are always packed. I was just pointing out how for whatever reason, it seems I'm more likely to see an OSU, ND, USC, Texas or even UT fan when I go anywhere around the country.

Nebraska's football following reminds me of UK hoops fans, minus the dementia and lack of hygiene.

They are easily in the Top 5 of largest fan bases.

State pop. of 1.8mil and I hear they typically have a large presence in all their neighboring states. Not too bad.

A very good friend of mine just moved to NE a year back for a full-ride golf scholly at a small school there, and was telling me about how every car there and tons in Kansas have big red N stickers.

It's very similar to UT's following in West NC and other bordering states imo.

I've heard of a lot of people there rooting for Nebraska in football and Kansas in basketball.

I am curious how you guys would consider Wisconsin? It seems that their fans travel well for football.

South Carolina and Georgia above Tennessee?
No way.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the nasty bammers have a large national following. Yeah they may have a bump from their NC but outside the south they are not popular.
I travel quite a bit and of all the teams in the South I see more UNC stuff than any other. I see more UT stuff than the nasty bammer.
Remember every hick in that state is a bammer and they are all strutting around like peacocks right now, giving the allusion that they have more "fans" than they do.

Forbes said it, the numbers are what they are. South Carolina's football team is slightly more valuable than Tennessee's. Deal. SCar's team value is around $80mil while Tennessee's is around $78mil. It has more to do with it than sheer number of fans i.e. boosters, donation level/seat, overall per game revenue.

Living in Pittsburgh, i seem to see more people sporting Steeler attire then Penn State or Pitt attire. There are sec folks here in the Burgh, i have seen several pa plate cars with, gator, arkansas, georgia, lsu and tennessee stickers on them.

Of course you do. Steeler gear is in abundance in all corners of the country. But those people need something to watch on Saturdays.

I'd say Bammers have one of the largest fan bases by default.

Rednecks* tend to breed at a faster and a more populous rate than the rest of the U.S. Population.

Asterisk Denote that Rednecks=Bammers.

I saw one get off of a school bus wearing an Alabama backpack. My street is directly across the river from UT and he was walking within sight of Neyland Stadium. It was all I could do to keep from running over him. The car wanted to, but I had to tell it no. Sadly.

What is wrong with you? Why'd you say "No?"
