Could we potential try and find a spot for a coach like this? Don't get me wrong, I like our offensive staff and wouldn't want to see them leave but Porter has a strong recruiting prowess and could be big in the Texas area. Major Applewhite worked under Mack brown and nick Saban says a lot for him as well. I could be pleased with either of them coming on this staff in a minor role tight ends coach, qb coach?

I hope nobody leaves but even if someone does I can't see any scenario that would land either of these guys in Knoxville.

Applewhite I could live with, but if this is the same Larry Porter that was fired by Memphis, I'm not so sure.

Whatever happens with Texas I think Applewhite will be an OC next year, even if it's not at Texas.

Because he was fired at a school that will never succeed in football? Porter is a perennial top 10 recruiter and a great RB coach. I'm very happy with Gillespie but if he left Porter would be dynamite.

No saban just mentioned the few positives Dooley had. He didn't say anything about ALL the damn negatives that would lead to losing seasons. Go figure...

Memphis will probably never win a championship, but before Porter was hired they did have a string of winning seasons and bowl games. With Porter as HC, they nose dived pretty badly. Maybe Porter is like Dooley, and does well in other roles than head coach.

I think so. Porter reminds me of Trooper, Gran, Napier.. etc. Great recruiters and position coaches but not necessarily coordinators or HCs.

Why is it when a player or a coach leaves another school, there is always a thread on here why they would come to Tennessee. I mean we are talking about the Georgia QB (forgot his name, there was a thread about him the other day) and now some coaches from Texas. I seen where there was about 6 NFL coaches got fired Monday. You all think they might come to Tennessee also? lol

I myself just want to see the same staff 2yrs in a row. What we need more than anything is stability in our program for a change.

Why is everyone always wanting to change coaches!!! We had a new system, new quarterbacks last year. Geez, let something settle in before we want heads rolling again. I hate losing as much as anyone, but it does take time. Texas has all the talent in the world to choose from, and they lost their "Fulmer" this year. IF we get another coach in here, we go thru the same growing pains again, and again. Let it ride. IF they don't get the job done, I sure Butch will make the change if needed... just relax.
