Could Phil turn it around
I think he would have and I'm sure others feel the same way,I forgot who said it,but didn't he have a hell of a recruiting class coming in ? water under the bridge though
I did think the Vols were a 6 win team this year, for some reason at one time,I did think they would do a hell of a lot better than that
Grizzly Vol said it best
"Expecting an immediate turnaround after everything that has went down in the last few years? Yes asking way too much."
I like Butch because he has a blue collar appeal like Fulmer and a loyalty to his staff like Fulmer which will keep our program stable. But Butch has that added passion and drive like Pearl has. Butch is a great combination of Fulmer and Pearl - 2 UT greats.
fulmer won lots of games in the SEC and our expectations were high which is right.
Butch won elsewhere and hence the high expectations. SEC is totally different level and Butch will get accustomed to it and start winning. Well I hope![]()
So we fired him to have 4 years of steady deterioration. We done good.

He also managed to loose to Memphis with Manning at QB.
Fulmer has been here since 2008 at least! We can't keep blaming him. And yes we've been SOL ever since. We've had Kiffin who destroyed everything he has touched and ran off good recruits (Tadj Boyd anyone) then Dooley (who recruited poor, PO high school head coaches and good recruits, and allowed his players to skip workouts in the freaking SEC the hardest most physically demanding football conference in America and we wonder why we looked slow and fatigued) Now we have Butch and it seems like we might be slowly turning the corner if what the players are saying what is happening is true, but his team also plays like a worse version of Dooley's in some cases. I'm hoping next year is more like Fulmer's first in 1993 and that Butch can coach, scheme and outsmart and out enthuse everyone else in the SEC.
