The Mrs and I were planning on attending and bringing both kids, but my niece is having a :censored: wedding reception in Wilmington that day, even though she eloped over Christmas. I'm not too happy about it. Would've been my daughter's first football experience, and first time to Knoxville as well, also would've been mine & the wife's first trip back to Knoxville together since our daughter was born. Oh well, just not in the cards this year. I hope my niece really enjoys the toaster. [/rant]

Send the toaster and a card! Be sure to mention in the card that they need to check the Tennessee schedule before planning the next event. I can't say anything because I will be working that Saturday. Mostly responded because you are headed to Wilmington. I m from and went ti school in western NC, but my sister went to UNCW. Its a cool town; you'll have fun.

I was at that spring game myself when we set the attendance record. I thought it was around 73,000 or so but can't remember since it has been so long.

You want it all but you can't have it
It's in your face but you can't grab it
What is it?
It is it!
What is it?

80k should be normal. Heck people are itching with Spring Fever.
But UT does need to do more to make it an event.
-The city should also coordinate festivites at the World's Fair Park. That is some under utilized green space within a couple of blocks of the stadium.
I had written a letter to Lyons a few years ago about the City doing more with the WFP on game days. Like a Game day Cental. I think they had some stuff going on this past year. Anyone know?
Since it isn't on campus, you can have beer trucks, tents, etc.
The city could rent space just like they do for concerts. It's found money. Plus you have a massive parking garage next door, and several adjacent lots.

The city's has been too busy letting the strip fall to pieces. I remember when the strip was a nice place and I remember when they had KPD as well as fire codes/building codes kill thriving businesses with their war on drankin' in the early 2000s (starting during the 1999 season). They didn't seem to care that those businesses made their yearly income when students, faculty, and staff are there (Fall-Spring) as well as substituted the lean months with income swells from game days.

The extra money from game days carried them through the summer period when students and faculty aren't there as regulars. Now there's freaking "we buy gold/pawn shops on the strip."

I don't doubt for a minute that a large part of their 'war on drankin/fun' was actually nothing more than a move to push people to new restaurants in Bearden/West Knoxville and Farragut for various reasons that are less than innocent in motivation.
