Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

"Nearly six in 10 Americans say they are not ready to go back to their pre-pandemic activities like going to stores and restaurants", according to a new ABC News-Washington Post poll.

Pay attention to hospitalization and death rates. We are testing a ton. Of course the number is going to go up.

Those are truly the only numbers that matter . I don’t care is 300 million people have it if those numbers don’t spike it means nothing .

My projection of a short term plateau seems to be bearing out, but as long as vulnerable populations are not infected at increasing rates, this will not be a major problem.

On the positive side, deaths are lower and with a large number of daily tests we are seeing positive rates of 1 in 20.

This will be a good baseline to watch for any change from increased activity in the coming weeks.

Another interesting development, which should lead to better treatments: doctors are starting to understand that Covid is as much a cardiovascular disease as it is a pulmonary disease. This is why some of the effective initial treatments are not useful in the end stages.

“If you start to put all of the data together that’s emerging, it turns out that this virus is probably a vasculotropic virus, meaning that it affects the [blood vessels],” says Mandeep Mehra, MD, medical director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Heart and Vascular Center.

In a paper published in April in the scientific journal The Lancet, Mehra and a team of scientists discovered that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can infect the endothelial cells that line the inside of blood vessels. Endothelial cells protect the cardiovascular system, and they release proteins that influence everything from blood clotting to the immune response. In the paper, the scientists showed damage to endothelial cells in the lungs, heart, kidneys, liver, and intestines in people with Covid-19.

“The concept that’s emerging is that this is not a respiratory illness alone, this is a respiratory illness to start with, but it is actually a vascular illness that kills people through its involvement of the vasculature,” says Mehra.

"Nearly six in 10 Americans say they are not ready to go back to their pre-pandemic activities like going to stores and restaurants", according to a new ABC News-Washington Post poll.

The 4 in 10 who are ready should be allowed to without restriction.

The 6 in 10 who want to stay inside are free to do so for as long as they desire.
