I think that just makes it seem like there is something more nefarious going on.I tried to go to the Times article to see if they transcribed something wrong or read it wrong from the Times, but I've reached my free article limit for the month. Behind a paywall for me.
Surely that has to be an error.....I hope.
I'm guessing it's just bad writing from the author. This AP article doesn't make it sound quite as bad, like they may have tested what they're approving for use, but it still wouldn't give me any confidence in J&J vaccines.I think that just makes it seem like there is something more nefarious going on.
U.S. regulators are allowing the release of about 10 million doses of Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine from a troubled Baltimore factory, but many more doses can’t be used and must be thrown out.
The Food and Drug Administration announced Friday that it had determined that two batches could be released from the plant, which is owned by Emergent BioSolutions and has been shuttered for eight weeks. But it said several other batches are not suitable for use and additional batches are still under review.
The agency wouldn’t specify the size of those batches or why they can’t be used, but a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press that they could have yielded tens of millions of doses and that they possibly were contaminated. Another person familiar with the situation said the doses to be discarded were made about the same time as a vaccine batch equal to about 15 million doses that was contaminated earlier this year and thrown out.
The agency said the vaccines are “critically needed,” given the current public health emergency, and that it made the decisions after reviewing records and the results of quality testing.
The FDA, however, stopped short of allowing the plant to restart vaccine production. The agency said it was working through issues there with J&J and Emergent BioSolutions management.

Some J&J vaccine doses can be used, but many must be tossed
This batch of vaccines from the plant is good, but we're throwing out millions of others and shut down production at that plant.
Does this give you the warm and fuzzies? The Emergent plant was producing vaccines for both J&J and AstraZeneca. There was a chemical crossover when a few big batches of J&J were accidentally infused with one of the AstraZeneca ingredients.
The overseeing body has deauthorized the plant from producing the AstraZeneca vaccine and has determined that some of the tainted J&J vaccines are neither dangerous nor have loss of efficacy at a level safe for informed usage.
Blatantly obvious the change is to assimilate data which will assure the public now that the vaccine is happening. Had it been reported this way from the start, the data would have been more accurate, and less frightening.SIAP - but this is infuriating and vindicating at the same time.
NHS told to identify patients actually sick from Covid-19 separately to those testing positive
This kind of stuff should piss all of us off…. I know it pissed me off when I was sitting in a meeting and we were being told how a guy dying in a car wreck got claimed as a covid death. How many more died of other reasons were in that original number?Blatantly obvious the change is to assimilate data which will assure the public now that the vaccine is happening. Had it been reported this way from the start, the data would have been more accurate, and less frightening.

Well it wouldn't have sold as well though. Fear is a wonderful motivator to those that don't ask questions.Blatantly obvious the change is to assimilate data which will assure the public now that the vaccine is happening.
