Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

You know, I won't tell my kid to not wear a mask - but if he gets any disciplinary action because he didn't have it on or wasn't wearing it properly I fully intend to fight it.

I have also talked it over with his mom and we are not getting him vaxxed until there is full FDA approval. If they start pushing that as mandatory I'm getting a lawyer.

I'm certainly no legal expert. But I don't see how you could possibly win given the Klaassen v. IU ruling.

Total BS that health policy is sensitive to changes on the ground. Damnit, make a choice and stick with it, despite changing facts and evolving data. Amirite?
How about publishing the rate of when masks are needed? If your county has more than 10 per 100,000 inhabitants you must where masks. If not mask free.

I'm waiting for the announcement about classes - the plan was for only unvaccinated students to wear masks but I have a feeling we'll be back to everyone doing it even though well over half the people in the room will be vaxxed.
The mask theater is what's really going to piss people off. Get the vax and lose the mask. I mean sike the vax can't stop the virus. I mean it can but the mask helps. Maybe wear two?

It's going to be fun to see how places, like my office, handle the mask mandate or work from home.

My office is struggling to keep people in the office even as there is no mask mandate. If the CDC starts rolling back on the masks and work from home my office is supposed to follow suit. But with how unpopular masks are with the hoi polloi, and how unpopular work from home is with the bosses it will be interesting to see that tug of war happen.

I will consider pulling the kids out if it comes to that. I’m not going to subject them to 7 hours of wearing a mask so the dopey public can feel safe.

Please push back against fire, tornado, nuclear, and intrusion drills too. They are a horrible waste of classroom time.

I would totally agree with nuclear and tornado. Sorry kids, the desk isn't going to save you. The intruder drills are just sit and be quiet.

I would think that 3 out of those 4 would be useful?

Tornados, maybe. Definitely in tornado alley.

Fire drills in largely segmented concrete buildings make no sense to me. Why should my room evacuate when a microwave is smoking a block and a half away on the other side of the building?

Nuclear. Y'all gonna die anyway, that desk is doing nothing for you.

Intrusion drills. Why drill for something that is less likely than Vanderbilt winning a football national championship next season? The teacher has things to practice, sure. But not the kids.

Vandy can start buying players now, so I wouldn't hang on to their past mediocrity as a standard.

Me either, and that is why I would get a lawyer. It makes a statement to the school board, and who knows, maybe it would be worth pursuing. To me it shouldn't be unreasonable to refuse mandatory vaccinations approved only under emergency use and still be able to attend a public school.

I was actually not trying to be sarcastic. I hated losing instruction time to multiple drills. One a year? Sure. But they're done a whole lot more than just once a year.
So which is more important, CRT, safety drills or STEM training?

A consistent, well cadenced schedule that puts procedure training at the beginning of the year and allows for focus on STEAM for the remainder of the academic year.

I see no worth in CRT in the school day or by the school system.

Nuclear? Hide under the desk? Yeah we can drop that.

Our intrusion drills were shelter in place, and if in a classroom gather at one predetermined wall. You know so when they break in to our room we maximize the damage they can do with one bullet or bomb.

Fire, is great, until it leads to the Bill Clinton giving a speech experience.

Tornadoes was nothing more than get away from windows PSA.

Idk maybe other schools had better plans.

I don't think it's unreasonable, either. But unless a higher court overturns the IU ruling, I don't know that there's any way around it.

Not sure about the reliability of Worldometer, but UK new cases looked to have dropped for 5 straight days. So whatever the reason for the surge, looks like it peaked.
UK 7 day average cases peaked this time around 80% of the Dec/Jan run, but 5% of the deaths.
US is currently a little over 20% of December average and 8% of the deaths.

I think we're going to pull through.

There was a case at daycare Thursday. Everybody got tested over the weekend, came back negative, daycare opened back up those rooms Tuesday. Hamilton County health department shut down the daycare Tuesday for TWO WEEKS, regardless of testing. Called some random guy to rant knowing that does no good. Just so frustrated. You cannot work and raise kids. You can only do one or the other. The health department guy said asked if I could just hire someone, damn genius that one.
