Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Well, going to start getting some supplies, start small at first and see if this thing is contained here. If it appears to begin breaking contain hardware, vegetable seed, canned goods, bottled water and all the hay I can cram into my barn are first priorities.

I certainly hope the naysayers are correct but this looks like it could be as bad as we thought in the outset.

I am prepared.

You really want to stop this from spreading around the US faster than it possibly could be already, ground all US flights for the next 4 weeks.
It would certainly do the trick but you and I both know they would never do that to the economy.

What do you do with the hay?

I have a thirty day supply of freeze dried food, 30 day supply of water, some high calorie protein bars, hand crank radio, a bath tub bladder, and plenty of first aid supplies. I figure if something, no matter what the event is, cause me and my family to go through that then we are extremely fubard. I am hoping to add a solar powered generator this year.

I hope a lot of folks (lurkers) have been paying attention since this thread started.

I know I haven’t been squawking just to hear myself and I know others posting in here are rowing with me on the importance of info sharing and preparedness.

Always hope for the best but be ready for the worst.

So much of our economy is driven by China. If this virus kills millions of Chinese, the economic ramifications will be enormous. The stock market will undoubtedly crash.

If this virus begins to kill Americans on American soil, chaos and panic will ensue. Grocery store shelves will empty, and life as we know it, at least for the time being, will cease to exist. Consequently, farmers will be the ones at a huge advantage in this scenario since they can grow their own food. Access to water filtration systems will be a must for survival.

There's also the possibility of mass civil unrest in the event of large amounts of people being quarantined. People will kill each other for food and water. Imagine Honduras here in the US. The end result of that could be a martial law declaration.

-or-

We successfully contain the virus, China (or the US) finds a cure, and we all live out the rest of our lives in peace.

I am praying that the second scenario happens, however, prepping for the first scenario.

I'm not able to find any updates online of the San Benito County couple that are both 57 years old that contracted the virus. They took a turn for the worse and were transferred from their local hospital in San Benito to UCSF. The latest articles I could find on them are dated either February 3rd or 4th and then nothing. It's been 10 days and mums the word. I have a suspicion that they are merely being kept alive by respirators in the ICU at UCSF and the hospital is prolonging the death announcement.

If anyone can dig up a more recent article feel free to share it.

One expert said the best study for how bad this virus is will come from the cruise ship stuck at sea. We will know an exact number of people on board, and how many of those people survive. Those passengers have become a controlled experiment.

That would not stop anything. You realize commercial air flight occupies an almost microscopic time span of human history. Viruses were quite successful long before we learned how to fly.
