I'm not real thrilled with this nearly two week layoff between SEC/NCAA tourneys. It almost feels like the season has already ended! Not to mention we have not heard a peep about the team working/practicing to prepare for their first game.

Don't know what can be done differently but in the past I've read where a few players posted they wished they could be at the beach during this time. Perhaps that's why the play in some of the recent tourney games has been lackluster.

Thoughts?

well I don't know if the lay off will help or not,they did look tiered in that last game,late in the 2nd half

so the time off will be beneficial ? I guess :)

Funny you mention they wish they were at a beach because most of them need a basket the size of a beach ball to have any kind of chance of it going in.

The MSU game is a sobering reminder that they don't have the offensive aptitude to make any kind of splash in the tournament. I'll give em one and done in the tournament, and I think that's being generous..

I'm sure the time off will help to heal the bumps, bruises, aches, and pains. It's also a great way to focus time on academics and prepare for mid-terms.

Before title IX there was only a few women's programs in the entire country that was self-supporting. in fact, if I remember it right, only UT, Duke and a select few were profitable to the women's venue in the pre-title IX era.... And if I remember it correctly, UT LV's made more money that some of the men's other sport programs at UT.

So, Pat Summit laid an influential groundwork for this law and the law itself opened a broader world for the women's programs. title IX was fought for and made into a law because of "yahoos" that don't put women's sports on the same level as men's........Your point is amusing, if nothing else. "mikey".

The LV don't create a profit...they're in the negative every year. Only teams that generate a profit are Men's basketball and football.

Ahhh...didn't catch that detail. I don't know much about before Title IX, but how would you lose money after Title IX went into effect? I would think that Title IX would have increased profits for WBB.

this might have something to do with it: referenced by url: Why women's college basketball might be stuck in the red - Swish Appeal

"""Football and menÂ’s basketball donations are bolstered by donations required for the right to purchase season tickets, which can be a lofty sum when tickets are in demand. In fact, as I detail in my book Saturday Millionaires, donations to the top football and basketball programs can sometimes be twice as much as television revenue, mistakenly believed by many to be the largest source of revenue for athletic departments.

Dosh supplies some numbers for the Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools. If you look at Alabama's donor contributions to women's basketball, the total sum donated is...$0.00. On the other hand, if you look at the donations to Crimson Tide football, that number would be $18.6 million dollars.

For the numbers Dosh supplied for the SEC:

* For every $1 donated to women's basketball, $6.02 was donated to men's basketball.
* For every $1 donated to women's basketball, $67.03 was donated to football.

Ok so what about a program that is on the dramatic rise: UCONN

Connecticut Tennessee
$4,704,571 $4,538,252 Revenue
$6,037,412 $6,586,982 Expenses
($1,332,841) ($2,048,730) Net Revenue
$389,033 $1,079,926 Contributions

Yes, the Vols are SUCH a well-oiled machine that I worry this layoff could ruin their great chemistry and scoring prowess. I'm worried that, after no games for two weeks, we might struggle and not reach our usual 48-point level!

I know we keep reading that our women's basketball program doesn't make a profit, but you certainly can say many donated to the university due to their respect and admiration for Pat Summitt. Shouldn't that account for something?

All major conference tournaments were last weekend. They are scheduled opposite the men's tournaments. It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

He said all women are done, not P5 conferences. There's still 8-10 bids to be had due to conference tournaments currently going on. Hence the 2 week layoff. Guess we could just move on and play with a 54 team tournament.

Wow: here we are on the cusp of the NCAA tourney brackets and barely a peep on this board. Telling.

Don't suspect we will be in the tourney long. We do have a chance however if Creme is right about our bracket and opponents. Arizona State is good but on a great night we can beat them and same for Texas.

Sorry guys, but i am taking a hard line here... I want UCONN's bracket... That way no false sense of where we are by advancing in a soft bracket.... Feed her to the wolf and if she wins, then she can say she didn't fail... anything less than a final four from the nation's #4 team out of the gate,,, is underachieving.

I have seen a lot of the Pac-12 this year. More Pac-12 teams than any other school except Tennessee. The Pac-12 is more competitive this season than it's been in a long time. Think of a West Coast SEC. Stanford has been down for a couple of seasons, and Arizona State and Oregon State are up, and some of the other teams (UCLA, USC, WSU) are more competitive also. The Pac-12 plays better defense this season than any season I've seen. It's a much more physical conference than it was in the past, and scoring is down. Thus the comparison to the SEC. There is no reason Tennessee can't beat any of the PAC 12 schools in the tournament. Stanford is in their head a little bit for some reason but Tennessee should beat these schools. Whether they will or not is another matter.

I agree. Throw us to the Huskies. That way everyone will see just how sorry CHW is against the best coach in the nation Geno Auriemma. She won't have a game plan other than to tell the team to play hard.

I went back and watched Holly's pressers after each loss 12 of them and each time she regurgitates the same thing. I want her gone so bad. It angers me that she's taken the Lady Vols mystic and aura out of the equation. No team is afraid to play them anymore.

The lay off should allow them the chance to evaluate their season and what it will take for them to be competitive in the tournament. The key issues are:

1. Have we figured out that the dribble dribble throw it inside offense has not worked;
2. Have they figured out that the offense they played in the 3 games prior to MSU works best for these players;
3. Will Holly play Moore because she is playing better than Russell;
4. Will Russell be aggressive and will she realize that you are not suppose to stand by and watch the game as Graves gets beat up by rebounders from the other team;
5. Will Carter pay attention and reduce unforced errors;
6. Will Holly play her three shooting specialist prior to the game getting out of hand;
7. Will Holly figure out how to make substitutions;&
8. Will we play like a team of 7 5 stars.
