Leach Rejects Texas Tech's New Contract

Who cares? A below average program with a below average coach who excels in one area.

Which area would that be? a phenom passing game, scoring points, making players look better than they are, winning lots of games, goin bowling every year, taking a bad program to the top, or attracting national media attention to his program.. hhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm
i have to go with all the above:bash:

Was his contract up this year?
I kinda remember hearing that.
I see that they disagreed over a new deal, but it doesn't say that the old deal had termed.

I think I saw where his current contract has another year or two on it, but if he rejects the offered extension, TTU has the right to fire him (now).

No, it isn't. He pretty much has done exactly what Spike Dykes was doing at the end of his tenure. I realize minor bowl bids mean something to Cal fans, they mean nothing here.

Spike Dykes: 54–47–1
Last 4 years:
1996 Texas Tech 7–5 5–3 2nd L Alamo — —
1997 Texas Tech 6–5 5–3 2nd-T — —
1998 Texas Tech 7–5 4–4 3rd L Independence — —
1999 Texas Tech 6–5 5–3 2nd-T

Leach: 76–39
Last 4 years:
2005 Texas Tech 9–3 6–2 T-2nd L 10-13 Cotton 19 20
2006 Texas Tech 8–5 4–4 4th W 44-41 Insight – –
2007 Texas Tech 9–4 4–4 T-3rd W 31-28 Gator 23 22
2008 Texas Tech 11–2 7–1 T–1st L 34–47 Cotton 12 12

I'd say leach has done far better particurally considering texas and oklahoma both stunk when dykes was there.

edit: as for your cal slam it's interesting that Cal's coach who you have prior said was massively overrated was referenced a half a dozen times in your new coach's press conference. If tedford stinks, you guys are in deep deep trouble.

What's Tedfail's record against USC? Kiffin likes to be nice to mental cripples.

Give Dykes an extra cupcake game every year with the expanded schedule and their overall records are similar...while their conference records remain much the same anyway.

His bowl game victories weren't good wins either. Virginia in the Gator and a 6-7 Minnesota team whose coach got fired because of the worst collapse in D-1a history?

Please. Leach has been a sham and the people arguing for him now are the same knuckleheads who wanted the silly clown at UT in the first place...which would have been the true embarrassment.

i believe mack brown in the only coach in the country with a winning record against pete carroll.

"He learned a lot of football under Jeff Tedford," Monte Kiffin said. Kiffin, Sarkisian elevate powerful USC offense - Columnist - ESPN

Tedford had 5 mentions in kiffin's conference. Pete Carrol 4. Tedford was Pete's first choice for OC over Norm Chow before Tedford took the Cal job (according to pete himself).

Text of Kiffin'sSpeech - Rocky Top Talk

"Jeff Tedford was a very big influence on me as offensive coordinator, position coach and then coaching for him as well. "

Scout.com: Urban Meyer Interview In-Depth

Q. Urban, you talked about Earl Bruce as a major influence. Who else -- you have been around a lot of different coaches. Who else have been guys that maybe you have taken a little something from and stored away?
COACH MEYER: I got a little packet of guys. Jeff Tedford, Jeff Rodriguez are great friends of mine. Steve Kragthorpe, Cal Winningham are my closest confidants in the profession. We every year seem to get together and talk football. I try not to get around too many because there are only a few guys like to talk with and those are the main guys.

For a guy who likes to rely on what fellow coaches say when it comes to his basketball opinions you sure do ignore it completely when it comes to football.

I'm not ignoring anything. Tedford is just another "offensive genius" who has never and will never win anything of importance. His record says what he is: Kirk Ferentz West.

Meyer puts Tedford in essentially the same category as Kragthorpe. That's about right.

Coaches always look for raises when they have a good year. I'm not saying it's right-but it's the way things

Well, it looks like TSO "Loves Lubbock". I have mixed emotions about him staying, but he is good for the Big12. My guess is cooler heads prevailed and Gerald Myer's ego was put in check by the rest of Leach's supporters.
