Learn From The Fall of Rome?

Like I said on that topic, talk about abortion and religion at your own peril. It usually results in some serious arguments. Note many wars fought in the name of religion. I have some very opinionated views on other religions but in the end, those who follow them are accountable themselves for their choices. I've got good friends who are believers in religions I think are flat out wrong. I have good friends who are members of denominations within Christianity I disagree with. But what good does it do me or my faith to sit there and say they're heathens, going to hell, etc.? It's an issue I have with many Christians who are quickly judgmental on others' views and do nothing but slam doors in people's faces. Great way to speak for a message of hope.

Still off topic, but nice post. Laura was just stating her views, and apparently it got out of hand after the last posts I saw. Up to that point, it was pretty civil arond 6:00. Some of us were just expressing our views as well, without dissing her, and she was respectful of ours as well. Some idiots must have chimed in. The origin of that conversation was geared towards that being OK for her choice, but just curiousity on our part about her views. Tragic turn of events.

Many atheists just due to definition don't have some elaborate view. Things are black and white with many. Essentially they look for the tangible physical items. Religion is based on faith of many ideas of which atheists don't find an attraction to. Any discussion I've ever had with an atheist, if polite, has been very brief. Not that their views are simplistic, they just base it on the physical. No elaborate explantion needed from their perspective.

I think she got a little more prodding than she felt comfortable with. While she said her view and emphasized there is no in depth explanation I think she felt a few people were prodding her in a condescending manner. I missed out on whatever might have sent it over the top.

I guess it just shows how different people are because I do look at the physical as world as proof that God exists (along with my faith). There is just no way I could be convinced that this galaxy, world or even a single leaf on a tree got here without a creator.

Rome was never the same after Buzz Sawyer left local favorite Tommy Rich lying in a large pool of his own blood . Gordon Solie solemnly announced Rome has fallen!

Add Fred Thompson to the list joining the tired, old comparisons. It seems he's quoting the Comptroller General on his assessments and comparisons.

for one, our economy isn't based on slave labor.

two, women can vote in the US, as well as other minorities, regardless of their social status, ethnicity or religion.

three, we're not expansionist in nature, at least not in the way the Roman Empire was.

four, we don't feed our political dissidents to lions nor do we lock them in mortal combat with highly trained gladiators.

If there's any modern political model that can be compared to the Roman Empire, it's the former Soviet Union.

Oh now, lets not bring reason/logic into this conversation. :nono:
