Leaving our guy Chris Burke out of the equation, what CBB analysts…

The being “one of us” may be Ben’s greatest quality as a broadcaster. He sounds like a guy that just got off the lake fishing or out of the woods hunting to broadcast a baseball game while at the same time being totally prepared for the job.
He would be fun to hang out and have a beer with. I just get that vibe about him

Agreed.

Fun story: Me and several friends were out in Vegas in early 2000’s playing craps about 2:00-2:30 am and Shaq comes waltzing in starts playing at our table. Dude was dressed down, no entourage (one friend/security), and plays at a public table versus private .He was such a normal guy and we had a blast with good ribbing back & forth talking TN/ LSU, SEC, etc. He bought rounds of drinks and was having a good time like was of the boys. He LOL’ed when we told him Carlos Groves would’ve kicked his ass if Dale Brown hadn’t intervened during the almost brawl at the SEC tournament.

Anyway, I bring that up because he’s obviously not as big a celebrity as Shaq, but I’m guessing NcDonald would be the same way.

I’ve seen Shaq and Carlos wouldn’t have stood a chance. Cool story though. Did you let it all ride on the hard way or the pass line. 😀

I think all of the ESPN/SEC Network main college baseball guys are great.

Burke- How can you not love Burke? He obviously pulls for Tennessee but does a good job complimenting other players and programs.

Peterson- Hes been the main guy for a long time. He has a good knowledge outside of the SEC and can compare schools in different leagues as well as anybody.

Walker and Delluci- SEC Network guys that are very likeable. Both have been super impressed with our team. They’ve been around great baseball and they know what it looks like.

McDonald- I actually think he is the one of the best baseball analyst pros or college out there. Down to earth, provides great insight, very knowledgeable about strategy and techniques. Every thing an analyst should be.

Outside of the ESPN broadcasters I love listening to the 11 point 7 and D1 baseball podcasts. Kendall Rogers is a fun chill guy and the guys at 11 point 7 are literally just a couple former college players and they just say whatever comes to their mind.

College baseball has the most likeable media/analyst of any sport out there.

I think there are 2 huge factors in college baseball having quite a few extremely good and relatable TV personalities.

One, baseball and how you come up through it just lends to that. Its a game that is perfect to watch and discuss as it moves along- in the dugout, clubhouse, stands, TV booth, etc.

Second, and probably more importantly, its growing but hasn't gotten big enough yet to attract the attention of too many of the higher ups in production. Their better announcers aren't being coached and micromanaged on every single thing to say, talking point to hit, narrative to push, etc like they are in football and basketball. Its more natural and normal (honestly reminds me of some of the TBS braves broadcasts I grew up watching).
