Lee Corso retiring

All you young kids don’t realize that Corso IS College Gameday. Yes, he was way past his prime. Yes his health prevented him from being his best version. But Herbie and the others love that man and Corso lived for show. Even in his old age, he didn’t bring the show down, it was great they could keep including him.

So my take is this kinda makes me a bit sad. Not sad for the reason that I thought he was great, more it's like man we're getting older.

As much as I have problems with a lot of the long time announcers, they're voices and personalities that that have been around since I was a kid and I've grown up listening to them. Danielson, Corso, Vitale, and in the past 8-10 years we've had Musburger and Lundquist. It's less how great they all were and more they were just there so long as voices I heard for 20-30 years. For all their faults part of me will always miss them even if they drove me crazy.

As cringe as Corso has been the last few years, it saddens me to see the old ones leave.

I miss Al McGuire in March Madness and I'll miss Vitale when the time comes. I miss Cosell reporting John Lennon was shot. I miss the reverence with which Jim McKay reported the 1972 Olympics tragedy. Dizzy Dean and Harry Carey barely able to speak English.

Corso needs to retire but it is like changing wallets. Man, I hate changing wallets.

It's been a longtime coming. I've felt for many years they should've done a recorded segment with him each week instead of putting him on live TV because he struggled.
