Lee Corso

I met Corso in 99 when we played Notre Dame. It was in the midst of the tutor scandal and I made a sign that said "Corso Needs a Tutor". I was on the front row and Herbie and Corso got a big laugh out of it when they came out before the show. After Gameday was over he came over and had his picture taken with me and signed it "Not so fast my friend! Lee Corso". It's still in my junk closet and I plan on putting it back out one day when I get the man-cave.

He was one of the nicest people I've ever met and I've been a huge fan since that day.

A lotta people hated on Corso for awhile, I feel like. He just has a good time.

Thanks for posting the link.

Corso in his prime on Gameday was great to see. He was the reason people tuned into the show and showed up early in the morning to stand in the cold behind the set.

The past couple years have been incredibly difficult to watch, and even painful at times when it is obvious he is struggling to even put words together into a sentence. It is clear that the wheels inside his head are still moving the way they used to, and I don't doubt that he is still as sharp when it comes to college football knowledge, but he just can't get the words out anymore. Very, very sad.

Wow, the people who are hating on Gameday in this thread should realize that this really isn't the place.

Corso is one of the sport's most loved and cherished figures. He's been a part of our football mornings for the past 20 years. He is a genuine, passionate man whose love of football is a sight to behold. I honored to have watched the man share his knowledge and passion with his viewers.

Kirk, Chris, Tom, and Desmond's reactions should tell you all you need to know about Mr. Corso. Not too often when you see 4 football guys crying over a guy that they are on TV with (or played for, in the case of Jackson).

Great guy, I missed the speech. Hopefully, I can find it on YouTube. It's sad to see his health decline and I have a feeling this may be the last year he is on ESPN.

I've always liked Lee. I really don't watch Gameday much anymore but it was a ritual growing up.

Great video, thanks for sharing the link.

I know many here don't harbor the greatest feelings towards ESPN and their personalities, but there's no denying that CGD and the crew, Corso first and foremost, have been arguably the most identifiable part of college football for the last 20 years.

I'm jealous.

Kirk was fighting it the most. I got a little cloudy eyed watching it.

It was hard not to get a little choked up watching it. Gameday is such a huge part of college football.

I hope Corso is able to do another year or two and that ESPN phases him out by continuing to give Desmond bigger roles, possibly bringing in other analysts (I think they had Todd Blackledge break down a few games with Kirk this year), and limit Corso to making picks and putting on the headgear.

I had no earthly idea that Lee was as old as he is. Amazing that someone at 75, going through a serious stroke continues to what he is doing.

As a younger member on VN, Lee Corso played a part in my become a college football lifer. Part of my wanting to watch college football was because of Lee Corso choosing the headgear. Back when I was 10-12, I didn't care about the X's & O's very much. However, nothing was more exciting that wanting to know what mascot head he would put on.

So thank you Lee Corso for helping someone become a college football lifer.
