There are a lot of conservative atheists. Not necessarily right wing, because right wing usually included the religious right. I suppose the rational conservatives are atheist.

Fiscally AND socially conservative? I know more than few people I'd consider of a rather conservative bent fiscally but rather liberal socially.

Was having drinks with one of the aforementioned atheists yesterday and we got to talking politics... she is fiscally conservative and doesn't think it's the federal government's place to define marriage, outlaw/allow abortion, or enact policies to help immigrants.

Four people I know specifically are Atheist. All of them classify themselves as conservative. You sure struck the stereotypical douche-baggery on the head, NEO.

So would you consider that person (or others like her) "conservative" based solely on the fiscal consideration regardless of social views or, given those social views, would that tag really apply?

As an aside while I've certainly met my share of fiscal conservative/social liberals I don't think I've ever run across someone that was fiscally liberal but socially conservative.

If we were to judge by their records, do you think that there are a lot of senators and congressmen that have been (still are...) fiscally liberal but socially conservative?

I know what you mean with this but I'm not sure it applies due to the situation. In the government context you're spending money to get something. I'm not sure politicians trying to stay in office and spending other people's money to do it makes for the best comparison.

I'm not sure you can be socially conservative and atheist. Maybe apathetic socially, but not conservative.

I'm sure there's a bunch of fiscal conservatives that are atheist, I'm one.

She sounds more Libertarian than Conservative.

A lot of people unknowingly and mistakenly classify themselves as "Conservative" when they are really a lot closer to "Libertarian". I have yet to run across a socially conservative (not personal conservative, government enforced conservatism) atheist.
