Let’s Talk About Gainey

Gainey is not very good.

He's in the playing rotation for a top 5 team

Before the season if you told me that either DK or Gainey would be our leading scorer and was lighting it up I would have guessed it was Gainey. I am not saying I think Gainey is a disappointment just DK has been other worldly for us this season and I did not expect that.

Collectively. I don’t see us consistently getting 20 from our bench

Found it. We’re averaging 19.81 bench points per game this year. That’s ranked 182 in the nation. Top 100 are all over 23/game.

Not that it’s a good or bad thing as we have a strong scoring starting lineup.

I’d be curious to see how many minutes different teams allocate to their starters/bench. I bet it varies wildly but would probably be hard to look up

Aside from the missed corner 3 he played really well during that sequence too. Brought a lot of energy and played well in transition too. Would love to see him get a few more minutes over the next few weeks.

Yeah from the mins he got the uk game, I think he may have earned himself 5 mins per game depending on the foul situation and whatnot but he has a bright future.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Without looking @ box scores, where is the 19 per game coming from? I’m surprised we are getting 19 per gene from the below but maybe I’m thinking of the last four games.

Edit- we can’t expect Gainey to give us more than 8 -10 a night, and that’s a bit high, imo.

That extra four to six points from the bench goes a long way in March as every possession counts.

I agree we need more bench play but don’t think we will get 20-25 a game down the stretch of SEC play.
