Let Dooley go in peace.

We are near the end of the most disappointing Tennessee season in most of our lifetimes.

1996, 1999, 2002, 2005 and last year were all much more disappointing to me. I fully expected this tragedy of a football team. You'd have to be blind not to.

Not like he's not getting PAID 5 million to suck. Take your apathy somewhere else.

I would also like a new coach.

I am up at 1:30 a.m. on a Tennessee message board and you are talking to me about apathy because I refuse to sling mud like a child?

Teach me how to cool.

The next coach will be inheriting a much better team than Dooley did. A loss like this to Vanderbilt is unacceptable, and Dooley's firing is now absolutely necessary. However, he has improved the talent level. While his tenure has been painful, he has contributed positively to the future of the program. I think he's a nice guy and wish him well. I expect to see him working for Saban next year.

I seriously doubt Dooley will ever coach again. I don't see him going back to work for Saban. Why would that appeal to him? He's going to have plenty of money and even if he loves coaching, why put up with the 14 hour days and all the travel, especially since it won't lead anywhere. I mean, he can coach with Saban for the next 10 years, but his head coaching prospects aren't going to improve. It's doubtful any other D1 school ever gives him a chance at being HC ,considering his record. It's doubtful Saban ever promotes him to a coordinator either. So, why would he want to work a time-consuming and exhausting job as an assistant? I just don't see it. I see him either re-emerging as a HC at a very low level (FCS, Div 3) school or, more likely, giving up coaching altogether.

This is not true.

The D is awful. Hunter/CP/Rogers/Rivera will all be gone. I bet James will leave.

Next year's goal? Bowl game. Realistically.

James completely whiffed on a guy my size and gave up a sack on a three-man rush. He's already gone.

Yep. Only way he ever gets a head job again is at a Division II school. His coaching career is probably over.

Sorry, no hope for you. I don't support thieves, that's exactly what Dooley is.

We are near the end of the most disappointing Tennessee season in most of our lifetimes.

We all know that Derek Dooley will not be retained as coach next year, and for good reason. The team has show little to no progress over the course of the last three years. It is a given that he will be fired/resign, as early as this morning.

With this said, I would request that Vol fans resist the urge to bash, belittle, insult, and name call like elementary school children. He is a human being with a family, and they have had to endure all sorts of crap from the fans already, just because their father/husband has not succeeded in his job... sad.

He has not sat on his butt and done nothing. He has worked hard, and it has not yielded the results that he, nor the fans expected.

A coaching change will occur. Please act like respectable adults and let the man go in peace. :peace2:

That fourteen wins in three seasons for $3K a day is awesome for Dooley. I would take that any day. Pay me millions to lose.

I wouldn't trust Dooley with a middle school team. He's clueless.

The only person who is more incompetent than Dooley is who hired him and that is Hamilton. When those two stains on the UT program are finally gone then UT can start building the program back.

I totally get what you are saying and I do agree with you for the most part. But i think people are mad about everything that has gone wrong and after three years of built up frustration people are going to take it out on the HC. And honestly I can't "move" on until its official and we know 100% he is gone. When that happens I will acknowledge his short list of accomplishments but i won't pretend that he hasn't reigned over one of if not the worst eras of UT football. Unfortunately for Dooley his name will be forever associated with it. I feel sorry for him because I had high hopes for him...unfortunatly when you take a job at a major football school it comes with the territory.

Dooley destroyed a once proud program with his utter incompetence. If he was half a man, he'd resign and walk away, that's the only way he'd get my respect. But he won't, he will walk away with 5million dollars...

An old fashion beat down by Vandy??!!! Take a second and let that sink in... Vandy??!! Really??!!

This man has single-handedly made Tennessee the laughing stock of college football.

I usually would agree with this...but...

He has let a proud program become, quite frankly, an embarrassment. Losing by Vanderbilt, a team that before tonight only beaten UT once in 28 years, HUMILIATE Tennessee. A ****ing beatdown.

At some point, you become so incompetent at your job where you deserve what you get. He's not a cashier at Target. He's getting paid almost two MILLION dollars to put a football team capable of winning games out on the football field. He hasn't won a conference game in one CALENDAR year.

Quite frankly, I look at it like this. He's stealing money from the university.

Good luck in your future jobs coach. You will get some sort of job, somewhere. I hope you succeed, and I truly mean that. Rarely do I wish failure on anybody.

But for the love of God, get out of Tennessee.

+1000

Agree 100%

Had we had a better head coach and a better defensive co ordinator, we would be sitting at 10 - 1 right now.
We would have beat USC, UGA, Miss St. Florida, Mizz, and Vandy...
I hope that the majority of this team stays together for next season and a better coach will be brought in.
We can forget the idea of a homerun coach being hired. It will more than likely be Al Golden from Miami. he is desperate to leave Miami and will take the first job offered to him. He did not expect to see Miami on probation...
I can say one thing wtih complete confidence though. He is a better coach than Dooley is, so that will be an improvement.

I wish he would go in peace, but he hasn't. He's hung around and every week our team has gotten worse. Humiliating defeat after humiliating defeat. He hasn't resigned, he just keeps holding on, making our program more and more of a joke, so, in my mind, he certainly deserves to feel the brunt of our frustration.

I know this is an odd response but probably to him, he thinks that if he quits, it will look bad and he will not get another opportunity to be a head coach again. I know he will never be a head coach at a major university but if he quits, he may disqualify himself from a job at even Austin Peay.
Also, he will never see another pay day like he is about to get. He will likely end up as (1) a positon coach at Alabama or at Florida (2) a head coach at Grambling or Northern Alabama (3) on a sports show in Atlanta for 6 months of the year.
In either case, he will never see this type of pay day again, so he will not resign.
