Let the Milton Hype Commence

Hooker going down was terrible, but for Milton being able to win a high profile bowl game to launch into offseason/spring ball was probably extremely valuable for him...and for any worried Vol fans. In reality it probably leveled out the off season hype/expectations. Everyone saw he's got the tools and can make all of the throws, but doesn't have the mobility of HH, or the internal clock to throw the ball or tuck and run (this part of his game worries me the most right now, as he stands in the pocket and holds the ball too long)...and not as accurate as HH on touch throws, but do think we've got an above average QB who can win some games for us, is a leader and knows JH system and how he wants it run. Additionally, having QBs with the age of HH/Milton is ideal...it's just different than having to start a frosh. Think we're gonna need D to take that next step for us to have a similar record next year.

Not only has he stuck around and stayed humble which are great qualities of a leader, he loves his brothers and this University and may be the one to win the SEC and National Championships. I think they are playing with house money in 2023. I don’t think Milton nor Heupel feel any pressure whatsoever. We got another one on the roster in Nico that may have to carry that burden in the future, but I even predict him to bear that well. Let’s have fun and play loose in 2023 and let the chips fall. I expect another exciting season upcoming 🍊

Someone remind me why he was sitting the bench again?

We'll see how this thing goes next Fall, better have Nico ready if it doesn't work out.

I hope he keeps playing as he has in the last couple. Nothing would be better for Tennessee than to have the biggest arm in college football play lights out every week. It would be the same level and energy of coverage that Jamarcus Russell got.

This is fun. Be careful, guys, you might vault Javelin Joe to the legendary status of Rod Wilks. :)

Vols are in good shape...we're not playing an unproven QB.....in fact he's the opposite. Good situation to be in. That said I just can't see Joe matching the productivity of last year. Heck records were set. Might he have the potential to? Yeah, sure, but if he can come close, that's about as much you can ask.

Now to offset and cover up any growing pains, the defense needs to take a step up/leap like the offense did last year. Getting two or even three stops a game would be huge, especially against your premier teams. The offense with Joe will benefit greatly.

I was one of those not sold on Milton 100% that is until he beat a quality opponent on his own as QB. He beat Clemson and that is no small task. So he deserves all of us to get behind him, I'm there. However he's not going to get a lot of respect from the media until the Vols take care of USCjr and T A& M back to back. How else do you see many early 2023 polls showing Clemson ranked ahead of us when we just beat them head to head?

Remember he lost his starting job in 21 because he was injured in the second game, and Hooker came on and played better than Joe, and so Joe lost the starting job. If he hadn't been injured, he would have either: a) continued to perform the same all year long, or b) gotten worse and been benched for Hooker, or c) matured and improved through experience and kept Hooker on the bench all year and maybe for 22, too. Who knows what would have happened if he doesn't get injured in early 21.

Because the other guy was odds on Heisman favorite until he blew out his knee? Because statistically speaking, the only Vol QB on Hendon’s level was named Peyton? That’s not saying Hendon is on his way to NFL greatness, but as a college QB, we’ve never had one as efficient as he was.

I don’t believe he will ever match HH in field presence. The unknown is if his far superior physical gifts can make up the difference. I have been pleased with his pocket presence and the lack of happy feet while surveying lots of the field on the progressions. Used to think he was locked in on the primary too long.

Spring will tell the staff a lot but a few games to know.
