Good points op. I like your examples and there is a lot of merit to what you are saying. For me personally, I value championships and the ability to make everyone around you better. Thanks for the civilized discussion - too many times it's not easy to get that on internet forums. By the way, let me also add that more than stats I value the fact that Peyton did what he did at Indy which was not at all a football town when he arrived, and is a relatively small market. For him to go there and turn it into the winningest (regular season) program in the NFL over the span of 10 years is to me his biggest accomplishment. Montana had a lot more help in SF with great running game, greatest receiver to ever play the game, and played in the big market for perhaps the best offensive coach of all times (in comparison Peyton probably had more to do with Indy's or Broncos offensive success than the OC's since he calls most of his own plays).

Agreed except you are being too modest about Reggie and Peyton.
Reggie is top 2 defensive player of all time (behind LT), and Peyton is the best football player to ever play the game (offense or defense).

Love Peyton, he's my favorite player of all time. But he is not the greatest football player ever. Top 2-3 QBs ever? Yes. Greatest football player ever period? No.

Anybody got that story that used to be posted on here every year, it talked about sitting on the porch listening to games with grandpa and being able to hear the stadium roar thru the mountains from miles away. It was an awesome story even tho it would probably get killed by the newer comedians on here.
