Nothing was left from Kiffin's class and his hire was a disaster. Dooley improved the roster, but we lost that Kiffin class and we are not deep enough or athletic enough right now. It is frustrating to watch, but the class Jones has coming in is reason to hope for a good future.

Thanks OP. Every now and then, I read a post like this and it restores faith in at least a segment of our fan base.

We have enough talent that we should have won that game. We all prayed their passing attack would be nonexistent so our running defense could do their thing. Well our players either weren't put in the right position to stop them or they weren't coached well enough to stop them. We have a lot of NFL talent. We should have won that game.

OP is right and mdrew27 is right. This team is a clinical study in submissive behavior but they didn't get that way overnight.

We have enough talent to beat their talent? Have you looked at their depth chart? I'm guessing you haven't. We have 2 nfl caliber players on D. johnson and mcdonalds. they have 16. AJ on the field the whole game no rest. They ran somewhere around 60 plus plays and dominated ball control. Our problem is we don't have the players to match up with top caliber teams. OUR PROBLEM IS NOT COACHING FROM WHAT I SEE.

Before yesterday who on their offense could you name? Ya their defense is amazing. But a 17-10 loss or something close where we shut down their offense would have been acceptable Driskell, that's all I knew. And I follow college football. I bet the rest of their season is filled with losses.

THEN START LOOKING HARDER. There's a very good reason FL ran 60 plus plays. If we would quit slinging the ball all over the field and pound with our o-line instead, we might not win these games, but we keep the score closer and at least give our D a chance to make a play late in the game b/c they arent so gassed. I'll hand it to CBJ though, he is running his system, regardless of the personnel, damned be the results. I think the sign of a great coach is one that can adapt his preferred style of playing to give his team a chance to win. Apparently, cbj must think he has the time to recruit a full roster of his style players so he's all in in his style of play.

Even good teams, even great teams have games that they just do not click. This was Florida yesterday and we were not able to take advantage of it. Overall Florida is not a great team at all. Especially after some injuries yesterday. UF will not win the east, they will go to a crappy bowl. BTW that great defense just like our great OL is way overrated a good QB would have beat Florida yesterday. Also UT was not coached well either another myth.

Gruuden, I'll say it differently. We lost that game because we have a coach who doesn't yet know how to win in the SEC. CBJ got out-coached by Muschamp. When Driskle went down, Muschamp went conservative, protected his QB, and played D. What did Butch do with his rookie? Asked him to go out there and beat the best D in the country, in one if the toughest places in the country to play, with his arm.We ran trick plays instead of just running it. Butch Jones is going to learn quick that you better play to your team's strengths when you don't have as much talent or he's not going to last long.

I was watching the game and that was my thought exactly. "Brick by Brick" -- It just so happens that most of those BRICKS are on an 18 wheeler headed towards Knoxville

The thing is I really really like CBJ. This is the guy I want, but if he doesn't get something done in three years we will all be screaming, NEXT! I don't give a crap what offense he runs, how good he recruits or how tall that brick wall is hes building. HE needs some Ws, not me, but him. If he doesn't scratch, claw or fight for everyone then it won't happen, we shoulda snuck outta gator land with a win yesterday or a CLOSE GAME. I sat im section 32 yesterday and that was the worst display of football ive ever seen.

I am satisfied with the progress thus far by this team. We were in this game in the 4th quarter. Last year, people were leaving Neyland Stadium at the end of the 3rd quarter because we just quit playing to win. This team fought till the end and I'm very optimistic.

Go Vols!

Florida tried to give us that game.... We did a piss poor job coaching that game. I am behind the guy and he has to learn this conference. But the running game is bush leauge. You don't run the read option with a QB that can't run the ball. You don't call pass after pass on 3rd and long with a struggling QB on the road. You have to be aggressive but you have to do what gives you the best chance at winning......

We need to be in the I with a fullback and play action off that..... That is what fits are personel the best. I just don't get it.

Agreed with you. They basically said the exact same thing you said. I think at one time Tennessee ran 27 plays and gained 4 yards?? Or some crazy stat like that. Wasn't pretty.

On a side note - What was up with all the empty seats in the Swamp? When did that start happenin'?

Reminds me Brady Hoke trying to run a Pro Style offense with Denard Robinson. Hoke had to take over for Rich Rod and he inherited his players but to try and run your system with other's players is really tough. So I know CBJ doesn't run a Pro but the strength of the team is the O-Line, Correct?

Take advantage of the O-Line that every media member says is the best in the country and pound the ball and run play action off that. I'm not a big McCarron fan. I don't think he's a great QB. I think what makes him great is his surrounding cast. Last year he had an NFL O-Line, Great RB's and when he ran play action off those linemen and RB's, his WR's and TE's were WIDE OPEN!

We need to do everything possible to slow the games down..... The hurry up crap is stupid with a defense that is razor thin anyway..... We need to run the clock and try to stay in games and get them to the 4th quarter where we have a chance at pulling one out. This just isn't good coaching..... He is recruiting well and I think he is a good coach. He just doesn't understand what it takes in the SEC. But he will. Like I said I like the guy. But he needs to be able to adjust to what he has......

Strengths?
Please list.
Butch is in a pickle. Has a mismatched offense without a qb to throw the ball.
On defense, he lacks speed and has a secondary that's young, inexperienced and learning a new system.
What strengths does he have to play to?

Why would we be in a hurry up? With all those problems?

We need to slow games down and get as much out of a senior laden line as we can. Play action off that..... Good coaches adapt to what they have. Makes no sense what we are doing. The play calling was reckless as well. You can't throw the ball on 3rd and long while you are already in field goal range with a struggling QB.... Take the points.... UF offense was strugling.....

Just a piss poor job with the X's and O's so far IMO....
