Lets Get Emmanuels Family Here

I agree that his family needs to be with him, but believe it or not it is against NCAA rules for UT to help his family and it is also against the rules for the fans to help.

*sends money to all of the bama players' families

Do you honestly think the NCAA, the most gutless and toothless administrative body in all of organized sports, would come down on the program for this? Not to mention all of the negative press they would get because of it? I think this is a great idea and highly doubt that the NCAA would make a big deal out of it. I mean, if the NCAA doesn't care whether players take their own tests or pass their classes or receive money, which there is plenty of evidence to support, I don't think this is a cause for concern.

If you think it's worth jeopardizing Negedu's eligibility, go for it. I, for one, think it's not my place to decide his future.

well if it's going just to his parents then throw in a house/car/etc. I kinda see what you mean but it just won't fly since that could be abused to no end

Yeah the NCAA really came down hard on Reggie Bush's family, right? Oh, wait.......
And Maurice Clarrett could have just kept his mouth shut and taken his slap on the wrist for taking money and played the next season and maybe, just maybe, wouldn't have been a complete washout. This is abused all the time and the NCAA rarely takes immediate or proactive action on it. And when they do, it always seems to get bogged down in so much bureaucratic red tape that nothing ever gets done. Unless it affects the games outcomes on the field or court or wherever,or has to do with recruiting, the NCAA doesn't give a crap.

Well considering Emanuel Negedu was clinically dead for a few minutes. I think eligibility is the least of his concerns right now.

His life and future are out of our control.

I agree that his life and future are out of our control. I don't think anyone is seeking to control his future or his life. I'm just saying that if this fund were to benefit him in a way that he would be able to see his parents, get their advice and support, the NCAA should not penalize a player or program for that. I have no intention to tell Emanuel Negedu what he should do with his life or his future. However I am in favor of him being able to see his parents during this difficult time.

As Hat said, his adoptive parents are doing what they can, and they need no assistance.
With that assumption, it's not tough to say that they can get his parents here with little trouble.

I was thinking today and thought 'wow what if I had almost just died and had my family half a world away?'
Big E really was clinically dead for a few moments and needs his loved ones here for him. I don't know if it against NCAA rules, but if I were CBP I would have them all flown out here myself considering the circumstances. Although, I'm sure if he could he would. So why dont we all start some kind of fund, even if it's a few bucks each, and pitch in to have his closest family flown out to Knoxville to be with him during this scary time. I know this sounds crazy, but I really feel for him, as I'm sure we all do. So lets do something for him, from us, to show that we care. Any ideas on how to get this started would be appreciated. Thanks to all and god bless.:good!:
Well this was such a great idea you had. Think all of us would have helped. God knows we all would want our family around. Guess we cant go thru with it though...What a shame/

If I am proved wrong than so be it..but there is no way this is a NCAA violation. First of all this is not a recruit so in no way is this an attempt of persuasion for a player to wind up on our campus. Second of all I am not an affiliate in any way of the University of Tennessee, so in no way can the University be held responsible for my actions. This is simply a group of people that seen a moving story and wants to be a good Samaritan. This is in no way an act to aid or affect the university of Tennessee athletics dept. So in other words show me where to sign I will help and contribute all I can.

As much as ur opinion seems to be valued by yourself and many others I'm not gonna take you at your word. Please elaborate with references directly from the NCAA. If this is done than I will gladly admit being wrong.

Go look up the 'AA's definition of "a representative of an institution's athletic interests." You, as well as pretty much anyone else who posts here, will fall within their broadly drawn definition. There's plenty of compliance material at utsports.com. If you bother to read it, you'll see your idea runs afoul of pretty much every 'AA reg they cite.

Well like I said If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. But hat, can you say that you agree with this. Or see for any reason this should jeopardize the eligibility of a college athlete. Another question..you said I would fall under the representative of an institution's athletic interests. What if I were not a fan and just saw this moving story on the news about Emanuel and his family and I wanted to help. For example what if a local church did that? How could you bring them to fall under that definition?

I think it is ridiculous that the NCAA seems unable or unwilling to discern the difference between this situation and a booster giving a player an Escalade. As far as the church idea, if anyone in the congregation is a UT grad or has even so much as purchased a baketball ticket at some point, the 'AA would likely claim it is booster activity.
