Let's talk about a legitimate candidate list

come on guys ... read the post before you post!

4) No Strong, Fisher, or Golden allowed. Why? Because I don't think they fill the criteria of 2 and 3, plus, we've already got those names. Looking for other names / legitimate options.

You are ridiculous. :eek:k:

Exactly my point. You can be an average coach and still win big if you have elite talent. Charlie Strong would have no problem bringing in talent.
Agreed. It's why we all were excited when Kiffin was hired. He and his assistants were all-star recruiters. Even though he was an unproven coach.

People say he is a great recruiter but looking at his Scout commits for the years he has been there I'm not impressed.

Did I say that?
I said we have to compete with him.

I have no one in mind, was actually hoping Volnation did.
What is silly about the stipulations? If we don't get someone in here that can match x's and o's on the field, and jimmy's and joe's in recruiting, we will not be relevant again in the SEC for years to come!

So, anyone else got suggestions, or just wanna slam the OP.

Because your stipulations are absurd. How the hell do you who could or could not compete against the mighty Les Miles and Mark Richt. Find someone who the players will respect, who can put together a quality staff, and recruit like hell. Do that and your well on your way.

It's silly because you're asking for opinions, yet trying to dictate what ones opinion is. I think there are a few holes in the argument, that's all. For instance, you eliminate Fisher because you "claim" he can't go toe to toe recruiting against the SEC's best. Yet whether you want to admit it or not, he does it and does it well. He gets top players that are coveted by UGA, Bama, UF, etc. that's head to head whether he's in the ACC or not. That's my point, and I think it's valid. Nothing personal.

A. He's brought in some decent talent to Louisville.
B. It's Louisville. Not exactly the easiest place to reign in top 100 guys.
C. His connections in S Car, Fla, and Ga would pay great dividends here.
D. I think he would do well with the mommas.

Yes, it's absurd to want to see UT competitive with the top tier programs of our great conference, and the nation.

Yes, it's absurd to want to hear the same names, over and over again.
Fisher, Strong, Golden. On and on.

The point of the thread was to see if anyone had anymore names; but not just names.
Names pointing to elite, rather than mediocre.

Thanks to those who are playing along.
Thanks to those who are venting there frustrations on me.

I think people are referring to his SEC ties. He was a great recruiter with Florida. So being in a bigger market school like Tennessee may be a better recruiting environment than Louisville.

Go back and read your op. You never said anything about new names. You said legitimate names. That's what we were doing. Again, how the hell do you know who's mediocre or who's elite?

Fedora would be a very good hire and not break the bank. 3 million would probably get him. That would leave plenty of cash for a good staff.

I don't think anyone knows who is elite, but we've all got opinions, right?

I'm not sold on Jimbo. I don't know why, just ain't.
I don't know if Strong can recruit well enough. Some say he can, others say he can't.
Golden, please no.

The reason I outlined the post the way I did was to keep names that most would deem "unrealistic" out, as well as retreading the names we keep hearing, without pulling in names you have to google.

I suppose I was foolish for posting such a request.
Sorry I wasted everyone's time.

Post whoever you want.
I hope we even hire one of them.

Carry on.

I understand where you're coming from. I was ALL IN for Gruden. But since I've had to step back and re-evaluate the situation. Yeah we are Tennessee, but seldom does a school just go and scoop a big name coach from another elite school. The way I see it, if we can come off 3 straight 5 win seasons and go get FSU's coach, that says a whole hell of a lot.

UGA-Richt was an OC at FSU
UF-Muschamp was a DC, Meyer came from Utah, Spurrier from Duke
LSU-Myles came from Ok State and his record wasn't that of an "elite" coaches.
A&M-Sumlin from Houston

Point being, most of the top programs in the league didnt just go and snatch an elite coach from another program. In fact, most top programs in the country don't do it unless there's a tie between the potential coach and the school seeking his services. Hell, Texas went to UNC for Mack Brown. I think the coaches who were eliminated are very relevant, because there's a VERY good chance that's the route we will have to go.

Peterson and Patterson are the only two "home run" hires not named Patrino.

Charlie Strong rates about 46 in recruiting in the years he has been at U of L. Hardly a record that suggests he is a great recruiter.
