What are your favorite bands from Knoxville? Here are some of my buds' projects that have been kicking ass lately around town.

Fine Peduncle
- fantastic electronic project, reminiscent of Prince with a modern house twist.

My Parents Favorite Music - nerdcore hip hop, but with top notch production and boundless creativity. Imagine Deltron rapping over the Megaman theme.

Marina Orchestra - comprised of Tomato Head (local Market Square eatery) staff members, this band is why a lot of people listen to music. Rich with musical diversity, slapping a genre on this band ain't easy. Just do yourself a favor and youtube them or, better yet, catch a show.

Black Atticus - Hands down the best slam poet in East Tennessee. His hip hop material is also worth catching anytime you see his name on a poster for a venue.

What are some of your favorite local sounds?

Youtubed them all. Not impressed. Marina Orchestra gets the nod for having a cute chick.

Can't stand their music, but they're a really solid bunch of dudes. I like that they've mostly retained the original lineup. Again, classy guys.

Not from Knoxville but from Nashville, RED. I love their stuff. Their live show is amazing. So energetic and keeps the crowd into it. I have seen them twice live and loved both shows.

Local music in Knoxville. I don't understand why jam bands and house bands are so big here. Well, I do understand, but I just can't share the feeling.

I have 2 friends in Marina Orchestra, but I haven't heard them yet.

Here's a track from my band, Cerulia.

Well, if we're gonna expand to Nashville as being local, then I'll throw out Moon Taxi again. Even though I just made them a thread.

Also, Kings of Leon

I've caught Moon Taxi a couple of times. I enjoyed it.

KoL hasn't put out a decent piece since Aha Shake Novocain.

Chris, I have a feeling we know some of the same folks. Didn't you guys play Longbranch a few times?

The other guys in the band have played there at least a few times. I've been learning all their guitar stuff this summer, and will be debuting with them on Aug. 31 at the Longbranch.

But yeah, Longbranch is pretty much the standard venue for a lot of Knoxville scene music.

Right on. I'll swing by and check it out. Look for the hair.

I might ask you the same question!

I figured you'd be playing a few hours afterwards.

I've pretty much been planning on missing the game. According to the tickets, show starts at 8, and we're probably playing first or second. I guess I could still see a solid chunk of the 2nd half, but we're probably gonna stay at the show until it's over. Doesn't mean I can't sneak out and run to Half Barrel or something

Lol, if you do that... tell the folks at HB that Rock says hey. Love that place.
