Don't know about you but I was impressed with their stage presence and the energy they brought to the show and kept it up through out.

Yes, they are great. Kinda reminded me of Tool when I saw them live. They just never come close enough to Memphis for me to see em.

Hotshot Freight Train is the best band in Knoxville. They are a rock n roll band in a similar style to Springsteen or Tom Petty with a bit of a southern sound added. I don't know why they aren't at the same level as the Black Cadillacs (who are also a good band) and The Dirty Guv'nahs (who are an overrated band). The Freight Train has far superior lyrical content and they are top notch musically. Great guitar work. All 3 of their albums are on Spotify. Their new album "Get Low" is terrific.

Saw them at Barley's a week ago and Heather Harrington's skanky ass was in the house throwing back drinks with some dorky looking dude. Hope they had a driver and/or that everyone was off of the roads.

This show is going to be pretty awesome. Expecting 100+, 2 touring bands, 2 local bands. Get a chance to see THE Chris4Vols22 in real life playing guitar for Cerulia :)

I know everyone's going to be watching the game, and I will be making frequent trips to Half Barrel to watch , but if you want to catch some good music on an exciting night, Longbranch will be the place to be. Show starts at 8 PM, 8/31, $8 pre-sale/$10 door. Contact me if you'd like tickets. Thanks for your time, and

To second some others on here, the best I've heard from the Knoxville area include 10 Years, Copper, and the Dirty Guv'nahs. I also caught one show of the apparently now-defunct Shadowwax, and I thought they had a good sound (live and on CD) with some real potential.

cool thread... glad to see Knoxville's scene carries on... i was in one of the original K-town metal vanguard bands of the 80s Reek Havok... now reside in Raleigh, play in all orig hard rock band called Motrendus, nominated for best rock band in the Carolinas in 2012... that's me on bass... check out a video from earlier this year at a local venue: Motrendus - "Unconsciousness" (LIVE @ Deep South 2-25-12) - YouTube ... if anybody wants to come play the Triangle area, lemme know... maybe we can do a show exchange... would love to bring Motrendus to K-town... peace...

What are your favorite bands from Knoxville? Here are some of my buds' projects that have been kicking ass lately around town.

Fine Peduncle
- fantastic electronic project, reminiscent of Prince with a modern house twist.

My Parents Favorite Music - nerdcore hip hop, but with top notch production and boundless creativity. Imagine Deltron rapping over the Megaman theme.

Marina Orchestra - comprised of Tomato Head (local Market Square eatery) staff members, this band is why a lot of people listen to music. Rich with musical diversity, slapping a genre on this band ain't easy. Just do yourself a favor and youtube them or, better yet, catch a show.

Black Atticus - Hands down the best slam poet in East Tennessee. His hip hop material is also worth catching anytime you see his name on a poster for a venue.

What are some of your favorite local sounds?

Tall Paul...

The V-Roys made one of my all-time favorite albums (Just Add Ice) & another solid one in the 90s, but catching them live was the real treat. Scott Miller has since focused on his solo project with the Commonwealth and remains my single favorite musical Knoxvillian (as he would say).

10 Years has a great unique sound, which is somewhat rare for a heavy band. They are awesome live and always do something special for the hometown crowd.

The Black Lilies are a relatively new addition to the local scene, but Cruz Contreras and the gang realllly stepped it up with their second album.

The Dirty Guv'nahs are just plain fun. I'll admit: nothing too original, but reminiscent of Train in the band's early days, with a Black Crows/southern twist. Very engaging with the crowd and a blast to see live.

Tall Paul has been doing his thing for as long as I remember. A staple to the Knoxville music scene, he's best when he is flavoring up some favorite covers. His version of "Romeo and Juliet" still gives me goosebumps and is a favorite of mine to play.

Oh, and whoever mentioned Andy Wood is correct. He's likely the most talented guitarist that K-town has ever produced.

Yet another band plug. We are playing a FREE SHOW at The Well (formerly 4620, on Kingston Pike) on Wednesday.

The Well is a nice new bar/venue. Very clean, good drinks, good sound, good stage.

Come jam out and have some drinks!
