Lets think systematically about the T.O. problem

Well, here's a thought. Why don't we keep our point guard whose A:TO is tied for seventh in the country, at the PG position, instead of putting our other guard there? Jordan is playing like a 2/3 right now, even if she was a PG in HS. That should help with one of our biggest TO problems.

The entire rest of the team, with the exception of Rennie, has an A:TO of 1.00 or worse. This is a mixed bag...inexperience, loss of composure, and so on, but it's up to our coaching staff to design some offensive sets that don't have players with mediocre ball-handling skills dribbling the ball around and some drills that demand our post players hang onto the ball.

I totally agree. Jazz should be the 30 minute PG. To my knowledge, she does not have any injury issues that demand minute restrictions. The team generally has a drop off in efficiency when she goes out. Jordan is much better as the shooting guard slot.
I can appreciate managing a freshman for fear of the freshman wall later in the season but Jazz should be past that phase.

It seems that Kellie was committed to the idea of rotating PG with Jazz, Zaay and Horston. Since Horston and Zaay kind of play the same position I can see that as strategy to get them both adequate minutes but, the situation has changed.

Similarly, the team is better with Key at center if for no other reason than her shot blocking presence. I have head that Key' s conditioning is a bit of an issue.

Zaay isn't a PG either. I doubt that rotation would have been successful either.

I agree. That move would have had her playing out of position but she and Horston can't play the shooting guard at the same time so I think this was a kind of compromise to share minutes.

Its a moot issue but with Zaay, the LVs would have a great chance to play a lot of small ball with a lineup of Jazz, Horston, Green, Davis, and Key anchoring the center.

Weak post play stood out to me, but was by no means the only issue. Our bigs were just really careless and/or timid with the ball, bringing it down too low and allowing tie-ups and strips. Also, they seemed extremely uncomfortable just catching the ball and getting it back to a guard whenever they caught it out on the perimeter.

What I see in Jordan is a player who will never battle any real fatigue. I’ve played with athletes like her — they’re just... different. Even if she were to be asked play 40 minutes per game three times a week, every week, her particular body/musculature type, coupled with her hyper-competitive nature, kids like that make playing extended minutes look like a walk in the park. Has she ever even broken a sweat?

I feel like Kellie could have Jordan running her defenders and making THEM fatigued while trying to keep up with her constant movement, drawing them out and away sometimes, and making QUICK cuts through the lane at others.

Agreed. That’s when we look our worst and most disorganized, when the bigs get caught holding the ball and look like they have no idea how they’re gong to get rid of it. Unfortunately, too often her teammates in those situations hesitate to go to the ball.

Holly was a great assistant and terrible Head Coach. Kellie is a top level head coach that needs to put away the gloves and come at her team swinging.
WTF? You want her to beat them up? That may be a bit extreme don't ya think? So they'll be out there thinking, "dang I wanna make a quick turnover so we can lose and look bad on tv, but she'll beat hell outta me if I do so I better not"? Seems way out there to me, although I have occasionally wondered if some form of torture was Geno's secret.

I'm afraid ya'll hardline Capital Punishment for Bad Passes folks are going to be disappointed. In KJH media clip just up on another thread she talks about drills, the need for better decision making, composure and sharper execution. No mention of rough stuff or even running til they puke.

I agree, and seems obvious to me, that Jaz should be the main pg w Jordan at 2. I'm curious what percentage of time each has played pg so far, and how their t.o. numbers compare. I also feel Key should be playing around 28 to 30 mins. She's already better than KK and you can see she'll improve with experience. KK will not.

KK's minutes at UConn is probably my biggest beef with KJH so far. Too much subbing overall when the dropoff is too damaging.

Let the bludgeoning begin! Blood must be spilled! If a LV commits a turn over, Kellie should her have drawn and quartered just like in the good ole medieval days before "the culture" went soft. And if that does not stop turnovers, well then Kellie is going to have to get really "tough."

I think a simple drill for improving reflexes and hand strength is to bounce the ball off a wall. Pass it to the wall and catch it from different heights, different angles, different speeds, different hands (one or two), standing stationary or jumping. I am serious. Use an outside wall. Simple....

I like your comments. I saw three or four times that Uconn got the ball from about 18 feet and our guard stood five feet away and invited her to shoot and she did and we see what happened. I think coach Harper has to DEMAND more and if she doesn't get it then the players pay the consequences. South Carolina has a young team as does Uconn and look how they are playing. A lot of this has to be on the coach, as you can't be their friend in practice or on the court and be a excellent coach. Look at our schedule and you can see that we have not beaten a good team all year.

Could it be that nobody really takes outside shots in practice? That our opponents do as well invite us to shoot outside easy shots is because of our over-emphasis on pounding the ball in.

The best rebounding drill for securing the ball is called "gathers"

An outside helper either shoots(trying to miss) and the post player must face the basket at all times using their upper-peripheral vision to set up for the rebound. They must rebound with one hand and gather the ball to the other hand, keep the hands high on both the rebound and the pivot, pivot, pass to the helper and get ready for the next one...You can also use this technique in two-person passing drills (using one hand snag gathering to the other hand) emphasizing in both scenarios to "bring the ball to the hand.

I use this drill to cure hands-of-stone

The three point shot is a weapon, not an offense. Though the connies seem to be trying to make it vogue.
Be glad we have drive-first mentality.
BUT
for those that are here to shoot the three,,,,we're ready when you are.
