There is another theory that he had syphilis. Is also speculated as the reason his wife became mentally ill later on.

I don't buy it. She wasn't deformed or anything. If Lincoln had anything, I'd guess Marfan Syndrome.

Lincoln's law partner/biographer said Lincoln told him he had contracted syphilis when he was young.

Maybe so. If Mary Todd had it when she was pregnant with any of her children, the kids would have had congenital syphilis and been born with defects.

Two of them died as children, and that was one of suggested reasons why.

One of them lived to be 82. Two of them died of TB. I think that's a pretty easy diagnosis and probably not likely to be confused with syphilis.

he almost died of that lead poisoning, what, twice? seems like he had his hat shot off twice...

And then the incident when the Rebs were attacking Washington and he was a little too close to the front line... I think one guy in his group got shot...

Even though I'm a Civil War buff, I've never heard of this theory. Must be because I focus on the military aspect of the war.

Seriously?

Yea, my wife is finishing her master's and will be a history teacher. Her favorite topic is presidents and after going to D.C. last Dec. and seeing Ford's Theatre, the house he died and his monument he is one of my favorite presidents.

So we decided to go with Lincoln if/when we have a son.

Lincoln Zachary (last name) doesn't sound too bad IMO.

thats awesome,

What will be awesome is when she starts making some money!!

But yea it's great because I love history so a lot of the books she has to read I'll look over as well so I'm getting a free history degree too (maybe a cliff notes version anyway).

I would love to major in history, but, beyond teaching, a history degree has little practical use. Unfortunately, I am neither inclined towards teaching nor skilled at it.

Agreed. I was going to be a history teacher, but I would actually like to make money.

Yesterday I watched the movie Gettysburg for the first time in a while. I had forgotten how good it is.
