Linebacker Depth

I know we have some solid front 2 (Beasly, Pili) and promising guys (Herring & Carter) but is anyone else worried about depth at that position ? Carter is a freshman, Herring has not played much. We have two other true freshman as depth. How is the Caleb Williams guy who transferred from Liberty ? Can he gives us some snaps ? With long season and daunting SEC schedule, I feel like we will need more bodies.

Your thoughts ??

Absolutely not.. our best LB depth in a long time.

We are good at LB. Don’t worry

Tennessee Linebackers are a MILLION miles away from just a few years ago when Colton Jumper (**) STARTED for the Vols.

He had himself a game against FL in ‘16. Rest of the games I was yelling at him and my tv lol.

Yeah I just looked up Georgia and Alabama. We are nowhere near close to deep.

Georgia has 19 LB’s, 5 of which are RS Sophomores or older. We aren’t anywhere near close to that. Alabama has 23 players with TWELVE that are RS Sophomore or greater (most are at lease Junior). That’s more than we have on our entire roster. We aren’t close to deep in that position.
You can't compare our roster to those schools. It will take a few more years for that.

Didn't we have a depleted roster in 2022 (and almost made it to the playoffs) ?

rosters show GA had 12 LB's in '22 ; we had 13.

(looking at just 1 stat) Their top 6 combined for 137 solo tackles ; we had 124 (and, obviously for various reasons, their secondary was head and shoulders above ours)

We're getting back.

Intelligent player but had some physical limitations. His head on Banks and you would have had an All SEC player

Jumper was one of the most frustrating players for me to watch you nailed why. Made the right read, right first step 99% of the time. But dang he was also always a step or two away from actually making the play.

Huh?? LB is the deepest position on this team outside of receiver. All the reports out of camp are stating the LB room looks outstanding for years to come. Aarion Carter and Terlander create a formidable duo in the middle for the next few years.

When it was is said we are deep, the comparison began. I’m not questioning we are headed in the right direction, I’m just saying those schools define deep and to your point we don’t compare.

Don’t we run a 4-2-5? Why would we want 19 players competing for 2 spots?

I think you're counting walk-ons and OLB, which is UGA's version of an EDGE position. At ILB, UGA has 8 scholarship guys on roster, 3 freshmen, 2 soph, 3 juniors. We do return both starters from last year, although Mondon is out for a while with a foot injury.

Thank you. I can give like to a Dawg when he speaks some sense.

I was wondering about that and how the numbers could be so skewed. That said I always thought we counted ours as LBs too? Last year BY was listed as an DL/LB. I don’t see that on this years roster?

Do we stay in a 4-2-5 regardless of downs? I am genuinely asking because I don't know. If so, I assume a couple of our safeties are more like lb's. Even if not classified as such.

This is a good point that I had not considered. Maybe that’s why we only have 11 LBs to GA and Bama’s 19+ lol

We have depth at the LB position it's just unproven depth

The talent meter at the position has gone 180 since Heupel’s hire. We had a backup longsnapper providing a body in the off-season not that long ago. Now we’re going to have freshmen who would’ve started in 2021 prolly redshirting. Last year QBs didn’t kill us with their legs as in the previous campaign. Now I expect Beasley type performances against Clemson every game by every linebacker earning snaps.
