As a well educated, beer swilling, skirt chaser, I'm perfectly happy with what I would call the "D-X version" of the Southern male. I think we represent just fine.

Unfortunately, this is what the D-X version of the southern gentleman often looks like.

That man is an icon. One of the five greatest mike workers in the history of wrestling. "Beyond the Mat' didn't cast him in the best light, but it doesn't diminish how great he was.

Georgie, you will not believe this, but on my way to Jackson the other day I listened for about 15-20 minutes to a pre-show interview with Lance Russell, Jimmy Hart, Jimmy Valiant and several others. They were having an event called Clash of the Legends 3. I missed the part with Jake the Snake. :biggrin2:

 Yeah, I know. But it was a little too easy. The guy was clearly intelligent and it's sad what became of him.

We have just hijacked a thread about Southern Gentlemen with a discussion of Jake Roberts.

One of the highlights of my youth was the night my Grandad took me to Jackson and before the action started, I met Lance Russell. I was about 10 and at the time I thought I had shaken hands with the equivalent of Bob Costas or Jim Nantz.

My favorite moment was when Jake let a cobra loose at Randy Savage's "wedding." Nothing funnier than watching people yell for the medic after Macho was "bitten."

If we're talking Southern Gentlemen, we must mention the late, great "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert.

Lance Russell is to Jim Nantz as Douglas MacArthur is to Colonel Klink.

When I saw the movie "Man on the Moon" (about the life of Andy Kaufman) when they showed the match between Kaufman and Lawler, I was probably the only one in the theater who was thinking "Hey man . . .The guy playing the ring announcer is Lance Russell!!!"

Who knew that LIO was a closet Mid-South Championship Wrestling fan?

I was in a theater thinking the same thing. My girlfriend at the time was not impressed when I explained to her who Lance was and why I knew him.

Come on LIO, you're better than that. I couldn't stand the Australian Midget.

Or maybe a Moondogs vs. The Fabulous Ones debate.
Stan Lane, the most underrated wrestler of all time. The Midnite Express with he and Bobby Eaton gets my vote as the greatest tag team of all time.

Was there anything worse than the Fantastics? Cheap, talentless ripoffs of the Fabs.

Bobby Eaton was much better than Steve Keirn. Jim Cornette also was a huge advantage for the MX.
