List: DB Eligibility and who can return

We do have a lot of senior DBs but seems like a decent amount can return if they choose to. Some won't and will just move on or transfer. But then we will likely add a few from portal. We also have some depth with returning players with some Freshmen already contributing. Just wanted to share this here as there has been a lot of chatter about how we will lose a lot at DB position.

Following seniors will have exhausted their eligibility after the season:

Jaylen McCollough
Kamal Hadden

Following have 1 year left after 2023 (if they chose to return)

Doneiko Slaughter
Gabe Jeudy-Lally
Warren Burrell
Brandon Turnage
Tomarian McDonald
Wesley Walker
Dee Williams

Following have more than 1 year left after 2023 (expected contributors)

Christian Charles
Andre Turrentine
Rickey Gibson
Jordan Matthews
Jourdan Thomas
De-Shawn Rucker
Christian Harrison
John Slaughter

Are you sure about Burrell, Turnage, Walker and Williams? I would have sworn they were done too....

I would love to have Walker and Williams back...Turnage and Burrell wouldn't be bad either but I'm fine either way on them

Is this 100% correct? If so, we are in better shape than I thought. I would think Hadden would be the only one leaving for the NFL. I would have thought Walker and Jeudy-Lally would be out of eligibility?

I based this list on official UT page. However, many of these folks may not return for final year; transfer out, try NFL or just be done.

Can you do this for the rest of the defense? I fear we will be losing a lot of talent. However, I'm also pretty excited about some of our younger guys who have already been playing well.

@LWSVOL has already put together a roster list showing eligibility remaining. It’s stickied to the top of the Recruiting forum.

BTW, his roster file shows McCullough as the only DB who must move on after this season.

be aware:

roster for next season caps at 83 due to sanctions. There is going to have to be a lot of attrition to add many more players to the current roster

16 seniors have an OPTION to return At this juncture, NO ONE knows how many may return.

there are 9 Juniors scheduled to return
there are 11 sophomores scheduled to return
there are 33 freshman scheduled to return
there are 20 committed players currently.
If you assume 8 of the 16 seniors return/

that puts you at 81 players before attrition. that is also before adding anymore commitments or anyone from the portal.

This off season requires MAJOR roster management by Heupel.

Next year looks like it’s even more of a question mark than this year was. It seems like we lose a pretty massive amount of experience at key positions.

I think Turrentine will be an upgrade. He’s just not as comfortable as Tank at this point.
