Listened to Kesling last night for the first time in a long time which means I also listened to Bertelkamp.

I'm guessing you never listened to John Ward who happens to be the greatest voice of the Vols who ever lived

It's a different world you can afford to have homers like Bert since every game is broadcast by both teams and either on TV or live streamed. Per my dad, he thought Ward was good but he said Lindsey Nelson was better but didn't stick around long enough to endear himself to Volnation as he went on to the Mets and was the voice of numerous big bowl games back when there were just a few Bowl and they actually meant something. He also announced Notre Dame games and was the founder of Vol network.

I do a huge amount of walking to keep this Doberman pincher body I currently enjoy. While walking I listen to other colleges (besides Vols) broadcast of basketball, football, baseball etc usually by each schools broadcast team. I almost always come away feeling gratitude for the broadcast team/history of the Tennessee Vols. Perspective helps appreciation more times than not! Many years ago I did baseball broadcast. IT AINT EASY!!

I listened to John Ward and he said bottom a lot, don't recall him saying money.I don't mind Bert saying money,I just think he should come up with some other quips and come back to money in the clutch situations,he wears it out!

Don't know if it was an off night for Bert but he offered very little in terms of insightful analysis. He was more or less a cheerleader, often hooting and hollering over Bob's commentary, but that was about it. Is he always like that? His shtick became annoying after a while.
You talk **** about money again and I’ll hunt you down.

I live in a place where I can't get the radio broadcast, but I can access it on my computer. I often will sync the Vol Network with the telecast, because I have such a hard time listening to the incessant chatter that goes on on the TV broadcasts, much of it not even pertaining to the game they are broadcasting.
Agree. I listen to WIVK streaming. The TV play by play guys do this chatter thing. Even with the lag, listening to Kessling does this. When a foul is committed, he tells you who it was on and how many fouls he has? Rare to get that data on TV. Kessling isn't John Ward, but he does pretty good. They should have the Dick Vitale health update during a timeout rather than it taking 4 possessions up and down the floor. I like listening to the homers.

Is Bertlecamp retiring? Someone told me today this was his last season.

They might be confusing Bertelkamp with Mickey Dearstone who is retiring from the Lady Vols broadcasts. Bert missed several games because his father Hank has had some health issues that kept Bert in town.

Bob sucks. I'll be thrilled and jumping with joy the day Bumbling Bob leaves.

I think Dane could do a good job, if he doesn't fall into the same trap as Bad Bumbling Bob of trying to remain neutral.

I have no issue with Bert.

Maybe it is just me but when Bert screams "MONEY" my mind's eye just saw the three-point shot sink through the net. And I never get tired of hearing that. I would like to hear Bob mention the score more often.

Nailed it. Bob is as stingy as Ebenezer Scrooge with the score. He gives the game clock reading ad infinitum, though.

it’s like he assumes we can see it on TV.

Yea, I'd love to hear "bottom," and "tickles the twine" again..........as great as Mr. Ward was broadcasting football, he was even better broadcasting basketball, IMO. "Sir, you charged!"
I really wish John Ward could have been around for the resurgence of Tennessee basketball in 2006. He had to call some downright atrocious losses in the 90's.

During the Friday night blizzard in March of 1993, Tennessee lost to Kentucky in the 2nd round of the SEC Tournament 101-40. It was Allan Houston's last game (should have been Wade's too).

My cable had gone out during the storm and I remember listening to Ward's call of the 2nd half... and he never once mentioned the score. LOL. It wasn't until he signed off that he finally said what the final score was.

Ward's last B-ball call was a blowout loss to Missouri State in the second round of the 1999 NCAA tourney.

I remember listening to Bob and watching the game on TV at the same time once a few years ago. For every contested shot inside the paint that was missed, Bob said the shot was “blocked.” The opponent must have had at least 15 blocks that game according to him.

Agree and disagree. I appreciate the fandom by Bert but his money call is awful. Just awful.
