Has the former Hornet’s Nest Lost Its Stinger?
Has LNS lost its fastball?
Are the fans spoiled by this 12-6 top 10 team and the past success?
Has the “wine/whine and cheese” crowd taken over?
Has moving the student section into RF hurt the buzz?
Are fan expectations too high?

I’ll hang up and listen….

-Fanbase is spoiled. That doesn't help.

-There's a little wine and cheese, but there are still a large amount of tickets that are flipped each game. Doesn't help matters. Even people that are into it take a few innings to understand whats up and get involved in the game when its their first live game of the season. I spend the first couple innings of almost every game answering questions for whoever is next to me.

- New sound system is nicer, but gameday ops has taken a slight step back. New PA guy is still growing into the role. Mid inning video packages and "games" aren't super necessary especially when they're repetitive. They'd be fine cutting a few and just playing music and flashing some stats/scores.

-The biggest one: From the ones I've talked to...the students hate, and i mean HATE, the new setup. Right Field isn't a problem, its the layout. And honestly, I don't blame them. Give them seats or give them drink rails to lean on. Instead...they gave them what looks like surplus theme park ride-queue railing. Nothing to sit on, nothing to so much as set a drink or a hot dog on for 3-4 hours. Don't really care who's idea it was, its a flop. Needs to be fixed asap.

They either need to fix it and put in some drink rails, or yank the railing and let them station their own chairs before the game. Multiple other SEC Parks do that.

Instead, I worry Danny will be the first to roll out premium student seating....

Spoiled for sure , Expectations unrealistic. The biggest problem I believe is the bandwagons don't actually know baseball. Coming off a National Championship will bring that to a team. Not many will look at how many position players and starting pitchers had to be replaced. And what's amazing to me , we have identical record as last year. We're young we'll be better by June.

The atmosphere certainly seems more subdued on TV than it did a few years ago. Sold out atmosphere for money. I am not sure it was a good trade. See student section discussion, below.
Has LNS lost its fastball?
Maybe, but I think it still sneaks up on opposing teams if we get rolling.
Are the fans spoiled by this 12-6 top 10 team and the past success?
Absolutely.
Has the “wine/whine and cheese” crowd taken over?
Getting closer every year.
Has moving the student section into RF hurt the buzz?

Unquestionably. We discussed this when discussing the stadium renovations. Treating students like 2d class fans is a terrible, terrible idea. Moving them to that crappy setup in RF is a disaster, especially for Tuesday games or for any game that starts to appear non-competitive. I wouldn't want to stand out there all game long on a Saturday afternoon. Never understood that design. Someone overthought that.

Additionally, the students were a big part of the energy in the stadium a few years back. Now they are moved far away. I know the University makes money off having donor seats near the dugout, but tickets will sell, even down the right field line, for winning ball teams. Crazy fans close to the field give an advantage to the home team. Move the students closer to the action. Make LNS a nightmare for opponents.
Are fan expectations too high?

No. We should have high expectations, especially for a team as talented and potentially good as this one. We may be spoiled, but we should not lower our expectations for this team; they are still capable of greatness.

Would love your thoughts on these questions, as well. Call back in......

Student section is the same location as other places, but it is also not a great setup. Needs drink rails or the idea of their own chairs, plus other places allow those students in RF to bring in their own cooler. Prices are extremly high for the college kids and that becomes an issue as well. One good change with moving the students out to RF, it does allow for one section to be used for the players families to set together. Last year families were split up between a couple of different sections. I think they would draw and retain better attendance on the student side if you did some student only specials, make it more enticing to come out. Most students attend sports for the event more than overly caring about the outcome, at least from what I see.

Definitely relying heavy on the students in those early non conference games and midweek games.

The Friday and Saturday crowd appeared full. Easter Sunday crowd was on the light side.

Ripping the fan base. Fan police always around.

Give it a rest.

As productive as the original “trash fans” post.
He asked out opinion on the atmosphere of the games.

For someone who treasures the opportunity to critique the players’ performance on the field, you seem a bit sensitive to a query about crowd involvement at the games.

Maybe read the answers to the original post. Turns out, OP is not the only one who thinks the atmosphere has changed.

You are free to disagree.

Wine and cheese crowd taking over is in my opinion a swipe at fans - how else should that inquiry be viewed? I speak my mind - always have and always will - product of my upbringing and my career.

Maybe the atmosphere has changed - I have no idea as I live in Atl. Could also inquire whether the atmosphere or attitude of the team has changed.., but dare a fan question whether any Vitello team has a different attitude??? Interesting Tony V has said many times that every team has its own identity - good, bad or indifferent.

I hope that we have yet to see this team’s grit and excellence and that as the season comes to a conclusion we will see the team gel and reach its potential.
