And the feds give money to the Big 10????? I really don't think they give out money based on what athletic conf. your in.

You're missing the whole point. They don't give it out based on the conferences athletics but rather the research departments of the schools within the Big 10. (acedemics)

what? Schools in the SEC are just about the same academically as the ones in the Big 12. This academics stuff is blown out of proportion. The priority is money.

The Big 12 is not a matter of discussion. It's comparing the Big 10 and SEC. Big 10 as a conference has a higher academic rating than the SEC.

So if TX joined the SEC the feds would stop giving their great departments money? Don't think so!

According to McClain, TX would get more federal grant money if they aligned with the Big 10 than if they aligned with the SEC due to the partnerships they would have within the Big 10 conference.

Are you sure you still listen to him. He does not talk as if VY walks on water any more.

I don't neccessary believe McClain knows anything more than other reporters out there, but he does have a lot of contacts for information out of TX. He at least presents good thoughts on this that others have not which makes it more interesting.

No one really knows except the persons in positions at the universities making the decisions.
