We will be much better next season. I keep seeing all you folks talk about a lack of speed. we have plenty speed athletically, what we lacked was the ability to play fast and be in the right spot. This being mainly due to confusion that came with the new defensive calls. Most of our problems all year were because we lost contain, any defense is going to appear slow when you don't have a force player. Not sure why but our ends and olb's just couldn't get on the same page in this area. If you go back and watch film we were pretty dang good between the tackles. As for being slow in the secondary, once again a schematic issue. You can't play that much man coverage when you're not going to send 5 or 6. I honestly just don't think our staff were good teachers and much like the clawfense our players just didn't get it. Prentiss is a pretty good example: was a serviceable player the 2 previous years and he couldn't cover anyone this year. Don't think he just became a worse player over night. I think our new staff will be much better at teaching the scheme and we'll be happy about the improved performance.

What I'm saying is I can watch tape and analyze football. Not just take a look and say they stink. Like 2 people who probably can't tie a pair of cleats.

We will be a top 35 defense. You will begin to see the "lack of talent " we had coaching that entire side of the ball.

The defensive backfield is still lacking overall speed...yes I get that the scheme will help. The other major problem I see is linebackers in pass coverage..Thats a major weakness.

Bingo. We were still slow in the secondary. So many average speed players ran by us all season. That's not just a scheme issue. We have to get faster.

Can't argue on the lb's. they were weak in coverage, which is why I'll never understand why we played so much man. One in particular was attacked on what seemed like every 3rd down of the season.

going out on a limb here, but Alabama will be in the preseason top 25 for 2013. I cannot reveal my source but this comes from a legit source deep inside the NCAA. TIFWIW

You are dead on...Playing all of the man coverage was just plain stupid..Our defensive coaches were clueless...Especially Foul Sunseri.

If you go back and look at the statistics from the Wilcox defense, it was ranked, I believe 37th in the nation with less experience than Sunseri had. The Wilcox defense gave up 1900 yards passing compared to over 3000 yards under Sunseri. It's pretty evident Sunseri was the problem more than the speed of the defense. They weren't in position to make plays. His defensive ranking was 106th. I expect in 2013, the defense will have to be much better.

The fact that we will lean on our run game more will rest our D and make it better. Our Dline will be better. If LBs stay healthy, we will be better. And secondary can't get any worse. Midgets move faster in molassas than our secondary!

We will be light years better than the SalVanilla defense of this year!
