Many thought both Missouri and Auburn were winnable games. Now those teams have punched their ticket to Atlanta.

Does anyone remember where each of those teams were picked by the media to finish in their respective divisions?

Can't directly answer your question but it's even more impressive that Mizzou stayed in the top 5 while relying on a freshman qb part of the year. That and they are a tad lucky they had no bama or lsu on the regular season schedule.

One of them should punch a ticket to the BCS NCG.

I know one thing for certain:

Clint Stoerner 1998 has nothing on Auburn 2013.

Not sure but just about everyone on here picked us to win those games in August, I actually thought we would split those 2 games. And the people who are claiming we "regressed" over the second half of the year fail to take it into account how good those teams are' otherwise they wouldn't be playing where they are next Saturday.

Sports can be funny.

A&M was the hot talk last year with Manziel exploding and Missouri became an afterthought with people asking how they would survive in this league.

1 year later they are in the SECCG.

Yesterday was the perfect day. Us winning and bama going down plus seeing SCjr locked out of the SEC championship was priceless.

I was one of those that thought we could win maybe one of those games but that was until I realized that both of these teams were world beaters. So the thought left my head really quick.:p

I think they ended last year as Mizz 5th in their division and Auburn was last in their division. Auburn was smart. Hired a good coach to do the turnaround.

I thought we would split ga n sc n spilt mizzz n aub plus beat candy.

The candy loss was unacceptable the others were hard to take but more understandable.

Bottom line we look like a high school team compared to the top 4 or 5 in this league. Is it talent alone ? I don't think so but that's just me. I still think this staff tops out 8 or 9 games in the future based on them underachieving this year.

Hard to tell right now. The best coaches in the country could have maybe got this team to 7/8 wins with this schedule and having to play 3 different QBs, including a true freshman.

They have a ton of talent. I think it says a lot about just how bad Chizik was.

Mizzou was a total surprise. Either they take 2&3 star talent and really develop them or they have a knack for finding dimonds in the rough. They, more than anyone in FBS right now play as a team and that synergy helps them to rise above their individual talent levels. I wonder if CGP is still on the coaches hot seat?

I knew Auburn turnaround would be quick because they had great recruits, but I didn't think they would rise above 4th in their division.

Fear not, I noticed one of the Auburn offensive starters is a Senior (oline). Let's see how they deal with that attrition!

I also felt that aTm would get exposed and they were...especially the last two games.

Auburn hired a coach that had been gone from their program for just 1 year. It was more of a homecoming than a hire. His players, his system.

Edit: But I think Malzahn(sp) is an excellent coach.

Behind Bama and Georgia for sure.
Auburn maybe 4th and Missouri around 3
Best guess

The opponents combined records.

Overall 88-55
8 teams have winning records. 4 losing records, South Alabama has a game remaining.

The combined records of the 8 winning teams are 77-19.
3 of them are 11-1
2 are 10-2
3 are 8-4

... who had coached at "the Barn" only two years before and had recruited much of the personnel already there. Auburn was bad last season, but no one has said they had any serious talent deficiencies that would prevent them from competing. They exceeded even those expectations.

If this is a hindsight post, lets look at a couple of other things.

If you had told me before the season that Florida would miss out on a bowl this year, I would have expected Tennessee to win. And we could/should have won that game if not for QB play.

No way did I think Tennessee could lose to vandy two straight years. Tennessee had opportunities to win that game and again could not find a way. Struggles at QB played a role in the loss.

With the way Tennessee played Georgia, that game should have been a win. Ending on a fumble through the end zone was terrible, no way you could predict that.

So there I give you that Tennessee could have been 8-5 with the coaches and team that we had. Poor QB play went against us, but we had some breaks that did not go our way either.

All fair points but I think Florida was a better team when we played them than they were at the end of the year. Still, I would love to see how that game turns out if Worley starts.
