Looking for Pons to be the biggest surprise of 2019-20 season

If he wants to make a lot of money at the next level, he might want to switch to wide receiver.
Pons would get destroyed on a football field. He still has issues with the physicality in SEC basketball. Further while he is a physical specimen in basketball, he doesn't compare to D.K. Metcalf or A.J. Brown. Pons best bet is to put that education he is getting to use, if this basketball thing doesn't work.

Seemed like the injury happened shortly after he was taken out of starting lineup. With his athleticism I'm not quite ready to give up on Pons being a contributor to 2019-20 team.

If Pons can get or has gotten his mental game back he should be just fine...........and way better than last season.

I hope he has or can, I just haven’t seen many get that off mentally.

To me Pons carried himself in a way that he did not ever look totally locked in. Maybe that is his French personality or maybe it was losing confidence. Other players IMO can sense that. They got incredible energy off of Grant and Admiral those 2 just exuded that, it makes other players want to give it there all.. To me Pons was the total opposite of Grant/Admiral energy wise. Need someone to step up to fill that void next year.

I kinda think the game was still a little too fast for him this past season. If he works his tail off in the off season, with Barnes ability to coach up his players, I think he could be a very important part of the offense, and learning how to avoid a pick is part of the learning process.

I'd never count a guy with his type of athleticism out. Hard work and good coaching could result in a dramatic improvement in his game. I'm optimistic.

When he was playing confidently last season, he was often a hand full for opposing teams because of his athleticism. Then he lost his start, he got injured and he pretty clearly lost his mojo. He is not an experienced basketball player and has been selected to play primarily because of physical talent and potential. If he puts in the personal effort (Admiral or Grant type of effort) this staff has the ability to turn him into a solid college player. I'm hopeful. I really think it is up to him. His ceiling is very high.

Lack of confidence is part of the problem. The other part is that he lacks skills and basketball awareness that lead to his lack of confidence. He realized he cannot out jump everyone in the SEC and he had no other skills to fall back on. He has a decent outside shot. He clearly worked on it. But he has a long way to go to develop into a solid all around player. I also predict Johnson takes minutes this year that Pons got last year.

Really wondered if pons might consider a transfer. If he's still a work in progress at this point, I have to question taking a kid who needs 3 years of seasoning and hoping to get one good year from him.

As long as Pons can defend and rebound that will be sufficient for CRB and his staff. I think Fulkerson and Johnson could take big leaps on the offensive end for next season.

Yves was my breakout pick last season but he actually seemed to regress as the season went on. I have my doubts about him now, seems to be a step behind all the time. Talent is there.

TRUTH. Rick Barnes can develop basketball players physically & mentally. I like Pons' upside.

Just to state facts Barnes is not a developmental coach. That’s never been his reputation people are putting way to much into grant Williams development. Barnes’s reputation is for underachieving with talented recruits.

Upside is tremendous here. All one has to do is look at his film prior to coming to the US and you can see that he IS a basketball player. As noted, development is a big key, and he could be a huge factor for us.

Anyone who thinks Pons is half the player Johnson is isnt paying attention.

Pons needs to focus on being a defensive stud and watch what John Fulkerson does while he's on the court.

Yea, but the average male height in France is like 174 cm.....3 cm per inch = about 58 inches which is about 4 ft 8 in

He was playing against people less than 5 foot tall.

6 posts in and you don't know the difference between fact and opinion. You'll do well.

As has been mentioned before, that, in effect, makes it 4 on 5 allowing the defense to ignore Pons and focus on shutting down one of our scorers. Can't have a liability like that for too many minutes in a game.

Lol...I know you’re trolling, but all the same...throw GW out of the mix, which is stupid, but then you have to account for Admiral Schofield, Jordan Bone, Lamonte Turner, and Jordan Bowden, among others, who have all improved tremendously under Barnes teaching.
