The key to Uga taking a step back to the pack is Fromm leaving. This is certainly true from a UF fan standpoint as Fromm has looked like Drew Brees v UF for the last two years.
But what has generally been a very average offense even under Fromm, I think would absolutely tank without him. Even so, UGA’s defense will still likely be good enough to keep them in every game, but you’re not gonna win the SEC and maybe not even the east anymore without an offense that can hold their own. Florida and Tennessee are coming on too strong for UGA to continue winning the East with an average to below average offense.
Lot of people said Mathis is better than Fields and is the reason Fields transferred. Definitely a question mark after brain surgery but it's not like they won't have anyone. I think TE may be a bigger worry for them next season, especially considering how much they use the TE in their passing game. The key to Uga taking a step back to the pack is Fromm leaving. It's funny how that goes. Actually, it's really hard to bench a very sucessful QB or running back, and it can really make a coach look silly - a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. Butch had it with Hurd/Kamara. Hindsight says Kamara should have been the guy all along. Kirby had it with Eason/Fromm, Eason left and Fromm pretty much lit it up - enough to establish a loyalty there, and when it came down to Fromm/Fields, Fromm gets the nod. Saban had it with Hurts/Tua - and he's the guy that correctly picks the more talented guy scrapping the loyalty part of the equation, however Tua ended up being injury prone, and the Bama faithful wish Hurts had hung around and stayed backup.Yeah, they'd suck really bad with the dual-threat Heisman finalist they chose Fromm over.
I agree with the bettors be ware part. But as far as recruiting it's not good for us.These upper echelon players do not care about bowls or education for that matter. All they want to know is how fast can you get me to the league so I can get paid. Ga.Al.OSU and Clemson are getting them to the league at an alarming rate.Thats why all four of them are recruiting at very high levels. Both starting OTs have declared and will not play. Rumors about a couple RBs also
I can’t say I blame them but it still looks like Potentially another lame bowl performance looming.
Bettors beware

Reality is, to the fanbase, it is a very easy decision IN HINDSIGHT. From a coaching standpoint, not so much. This is the byproduct of having too good of a recruiting class. It's like musical chairs - when the music stops, the guy who has been the stud ever since pee-wee football can't imagine being a backup. Rather than sit on the bench, he leaves.
I remember watching him as a freshman. . I think his accuracy was really good and he (like the Bentley kid at USCe) gave me one of those "it's gonna be a long time before this kid graduates" feelings. I had that with Eason, and was surprised he was scrapped. So it goes. Good receivers make a QB look better perhaps, but Fromm's accuracy really has taken a hit. USCe made him look silly. The interesting thing is Fromm didn't really light it up. He only threw for 174 ypg. He hasn't eclipsed 3,000 yards in 3 years and he's playing 14+ games per season. Fromm as a freshman played for a better team with a completely rehabilitated Chubb and the line was just moving people. Somehow he ended up with a strangle hold on that QB position, but it never should have been the case.
