Looks like Chip Kelly is done

So from that trio of coaches UF had as potential targets in 2017 (Mullen, Frost and Kelly), all three are now unemployed.
I remember coming home after the UT/UK game in 2017 and Vol Twitter freaking out that UF had already fired McElwain and we hadn't fired Butch yet, meaning they had the inside track to get Chip Kelly and would leave UT in the dust. Good times.

yeah, it boggles the mind about who UT has hired, and then you go and look at the competition for the job, its pretty clear we didn't have any great options lined up.

Well even then Stanford was doing the injury thing to slow em down which worked. The thing I remember was that check that was written to kid in Texas I think that played for him at Oregon. Once came to light he bounced to NFL to avoid it. Then once in NFL the players were vocal about not recommending anyone ever play for him. To this day I think that affected his recruiting once he went back to college. Add to that Uncle Phils resources at Oregon funding almost anything needed and state of the art facilities was better than UCLA in modern era.

I believe a $25,000 check was written to an agent, Willy Lyles, that said he could get the kid to Oregon. Lyles provided cash and free logging to the kid. The kid never came to Oregon and I believe that's when things became public. Not sure but that's what I remember

It was Seastrunk if I recall correctly, who did attend Oregon for a year.

Free logging in Oregon could be lucrative.

It was Seastrunk, Wiki says he attended the U of O. Also, it appears he was released from his U of O commitment and never played for the U of O. He went on to Baylor where he had a good career. He was a very good RB.

He was released in Fall of 2011 but was a 2010 HS grad, so he was on campus for 2010 season.

That's kind of the take I had on him also. One trick pony.

He was the first to do the whole warp speed offense thing. Then coordinators started catching up. Went to the Eagles and pro D coordinators shut him down quickly. Just couldn't evolve further I guess.

Was really perplexed when quite a few on here wanted Kelly after we canned Botch.

I really wonder if the Bruins really thought this whole B10 thing through. They have barely had a pulse in football for 30 years. The wine and cheese crowd just doesn't fit in CFB lol. UCLA could very well be another Rutgers for the B10 in terms of quality. Even the also rans like Illinois, Indiana, etc will dominate the Bruins with things as they are

UCLA and the other three Pac12 schools who've joined the Big10 were /not/ thinking primarily about how competitive they'd be on the football field. Like Maryland before them, they were focused on how much more money they'll have, thanks to the conference switch. The four new members of the Big10 will more than double their TV revenues--jump from about $21/22 million to close to $50 million annually, on average, over the next 10 years. The existing members will make upwards of $70 million annually.

UCLA and Chip Kelly should be a good combo on paper.
I have looked at Kelly's staff at UCLA, and it is not very impressive.
His OC was OC at Mich several years ago when they wear primarily running the ball.
It looks like the offense is pedestrian without the Mariota/Dobbs type QB.

Scares me to death that UF will fire Billy boy and hire Kelly...He can get the recruits at UF.

UCLA seems like a hard place to win. Coaches keep going there and failing. To be honest, I think it is a dumb move because he made them more relevant than anyone in recent history.

Brian Kelly? or Chip Kelly?

Chip doesn't worry me at all, he couldn't win at all in the weak PAC-12 at UCLA. he is 33-33, his BEST year was 9-4 and he somehow still ended up 5th in his conference that year. never had a season at UCLA with fewer than 4 losses.

we beat Brian already.

I’ll never understand how any coach could do what he did at Oregon. Must have just been the stars aligning

Mike Bellotti laid a great foundation. He's a guy who probably doesn't get talked about enough (outside of Eugene, anyway) as the guy who really helped start the program. From 2000 until 2008 he had 4 double-digit win seasons and almost won a national title in 2001. All of the Nike money helps too. Oregon is one of the best, maybe the best, marketed program of the last 10-15 years.

Ok so why would Brian kelly leave a bigtime contract with LSU to go to florida?...If you read the header its says in big letters Chip Kelly...He hasn't done good at UCLA because he can't beat out USC for top recruits...He lit it up at Oregon and would do well at UF if they hired him as it is a hot recruiting ground there.

You are saying the competition with USC ruined Chip Kelly at UCLA. Even though he had a history of recruiting that area and playing in that conference.
But you think he will do well in Florida, recruiting against Miami, and Florida State?
and playing against the SEC where he has no experience recruiting or coaching? yeah, he doesn't worry me at UF. UF worries me no matter who their coach is, but Chip Kelly doesn't add to that.

What happened to this guy after he left Oregon?

Did he have an edge for a while with the speedy spread offense, but then everyone else started doing it, and he didn't have another move?
I've always said Chip was handed to keys to a Corvette at Oregon.
He didn't build that program

Don’t be surprised if Urban Meyer is in play at UCLA. He and AD Martin Jarmond worked together at Ohio State.
