Unfortunately, she had been sick for a long time. Heupel's parents live on the same street as my wife's parents in Edmund, Oklahoma and I knew she was not doing well.
May the Lord keep her close and help relieve that family's grief with the knowing that she is with the Lord in His kingdom and she will see them when they arrive Home.

I must have missed this news report back in the spring. I was just reading and watching a video about how Cindy would drive 12 hours to Norman to watch Josh's games and speak about how proud and honored she was to be his mother. (Link below).
It just goes to show how close to the vest Josh is with these type of personal matters. There has to be so much more brewing deep inside him leading up to this game. In some ways this game is the official culmination that he has fully overcame his firing at OU. He was thrown aside and left as an outcast. Year by year he has clawed his way back and now has assembled one of the top programs in the nation. His mom at least got to see the steps he made to pulling himself back up, but she will have to look down upon heaven to see the ending chapter of this story.
PS: Sorry if this confused anyone. Heupel's mother passed away in May 2024, not this month. I didn't know if I should start a new thread or bump this one, but thought it was an underlying storyline that pertained to this upcoming game against OU.
In 2000, the News 9 team documented then-quarterback Josh's mother, Cindy Heupel, as she made the long drive from Aberdeen, South Dakota, to watch her son play.
