It looks like the Gators are going with Billy Napier out of Louisiana. They are saying announcement could come as soon as Sunday or Monday. Napier is a great coach and I think he could be very scary in the SEC. I would’ve much rather them have hired someone else. I think this is a scarier hire than James Franklin even. Anyways, I hope he loses more than he wins. Go Vols!

Noooo not even...He's a good coach but he's not godlike in any way shape or form...Big difference going from the Sunbelt conference to the SEC...Would he do good?...Yeah maybe but the pressure to win at UF or LSU is tremendous...I would honestly be more afraid of Jamey Chadwell at UF with that offense he would bring to the table...Whew!...Would be a nightmare to try and defend.

LSU is arguably the best job in the nation and all the good coaches passed on them last time. It's not looking much better this time either.

No one has any idea what’s going on with the search. Scott Woodward is arguably the best AD in America. If I were a fan of LSU I’d be supremely confident that we were going to land a good coach.

I definitely wouldn’t say he is scarier than James Franklin. Franklin has thrived in the SEC at the most difficult school to succeed at. We have seen a whole lot of guys like Napier win at small schools then come to the SEC and fall flat. Similar to one or two of the other posters who’ve commented on the thread… I don’t know anything about Napier. Is he an offensive guru? A defensive guy?
His best chance for success is if he’s been on the offensive side of the ball for a long time and has an excellent track record of producing dynamic offenses. That is what wins in today’s game. Ryan day, Lincoln Riley, Lane kiffin, mike leech, Josh Heupel, etc.
If you aren’t that you have to absolutely stockpile talent and out recruit everyone. ALA Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. But that is not a quick fix and sec fan bases aren’t going to sit back and allow a very vanilla scheme the time necessary to match up body to body.

Napier is an offensive guy, and a relentless recruiter. That’s what worries me, Mullen was an offensive guy, but he hated recruiting. Napier is a die hard recruiter and expects his staff and support staff to always be recruiting. I don’t want him at Florida, at all

Agreed. Louisiana ties or not, I don’t think many saw him being able to swing Mulkey or assume that Mulkey was even “available”.
