Like we scrapped our so called motion offense and went with high picks, a couple of clearouts and had better spacing with penetrators, spot up shooters and some good interior passes to an open stokes on a draw and dish.

Hall and McBee really don't need more than 10+ min a game. They are both awful. Moore and Reese are going to be great players (and to think everyone wrote them off.) Next year this team will be deadly!!

Four guard lineup was a big part of that.

Lot more pick-n-rolls tonight I noticed.

Sparty, do you notice also when Stokes has the ball in the paint how Hall kills it by clogging the lane. Just kills the offense.

I noticed that too. Hall is wasting space and isn't an offensive threat. Reese spreads the floor with his shooting.

I agree with everyone's post but unit also helps to play a team that is undermanned. Happy we won, but we should have.

Coaches that adapt when necessary survive. The ones that don't adapt don't make it. Good sign. Nothing is worse than a coach who is too stubborn for their own good.

We've seen some zone, and now getting away from the motion. Always have saw him pick up the tempo.....appears to me he's willing to adjust.

McRae and rich are more dangerous than Trae with a high pick. Do it every damn time. Roll, and spot up on the wing. Space the floor. Screw the wasted motion offense. Motion 30 feet away does nothing except get your own guys out of rhythm.

Now you guys are realizing why I just can't watch him play. He does so many little things bad that it makes my skin crawl.
Still can't believe a sr doesn't understand spacing, but the dribble penetration offense made spacing look better the other day. I hope he sticks with it. High picks, rolls, spot up and one cutter to an open space. Do it every. damn. time. You don't need another man to man offense.

Not to mention our lack of shooters makes spacing for driving lanes that much more important. I think the dribble drive suits us better anyways.

we've been running some semblance of the old Wooden high post.
-pass to the wing/cut past the 5 at the elbow/wing passes it to the 5 at the elbow (but with us, we end up near the 3 point line)Stokes or whomever tries to post

We can hardly make the pass from the wing, much less interior passing, and Stokes' post up is in prime doubling position with terrible spacing and no movement. That set was made for Bill Walton and Kareem. Not a 6'8 kid with limited finishing moves.

This is how the offense looked last year when we were playing well. Constant motion getting guys open looks. Not sure why it's taken so long this year to get it going.

we changed philosphies a little and changed who starts the O. Trae tends to walk it up or backtrack with pressure. Then we are late in the shot clock and he isn't good at running the pick and roll. He isn't finishing well, seldom pulls up and isn't a good passer. Jordy sees tough man and will call for a pick and penetrate. I'd run a pick to him and richardson everytime they get it and space it out.

I have noticed this. Hall just exists and takes up space, in a bad way. He doesn't move well on either end of the floor and is routinely the cause of double-teams on Stokes because he hasn't grasped the notion that his man and even himself become a hindrance in the paint when he doesn't have the ball. Defensively, his inability to move well leads to a lot of lazy fouls simply because of poor positioning that requires him to reach in or bump someone with his hips.

“Right now Jordan McRae is the starting point guard.”

-Cuonzo Martin

Per Rucker quoting cuonzo:

"Trae Golden has a lot more in the tank"

"Jordan McRae is still the Vols' starting PG for now"

No players have stepped up to say they want to guard Marshall Henderson

"Murphy Holloway is a much tougher matchup with Jeronne Maymon injured" (tired of this excuse)

cuonzo swears he never gave up 30 points to someone he's guarding - asst. pointed out that Michael Finley owned him.

And for the gem quote - "All the guys are competing hard. Sometimes you just are what you are". (very disappointed to hear the coach say this about his players)

You may be tired of that excuse, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. It's a valid point, and we're fooling ourselves if we think this team isn't better with their best player on the floor. Who would you choose to guard Holloway without Maymon? Then ask yourself if you would rather that person guard him, or would you rather Maymon have that assignment, all things being equal?

If what you are really saying is that you'd prefer he not mention the fact that they miss Maymon, then you'd have a valid complaint, but saying you're "tired" of the excuse doesn't make it any less impactful to the team's success.
