You may be tired of that excuse, but it doesn't make it any less relevant. It's a valid point, and we're fooling ourselves if we think this team isn't better with their best player on the floor. Who would you choose to guard Holloway without Maymon? Then ask yourself if you would rather that person guard him, or would you rather Maymon have that assignment, all things being equal?

If what you are really saying is that you'd prefer he not mention the fact that they miss Maymon, then you'd have a valid complaint, but saying you're "tired" of the excuse doesn't make it any less impactful to the team's success.

It may be valid, but's it's as relevant as saying we'd match up better with Holloway if we had Shaq O'Neal. Neither is happening so talk about what you're going to do more and less about the excuses.

sorry to intrude but thow richardson in there on em he did a good job at kentucky with goodwin

Apples and oranges. Goodwin and Holloway are completely different players with completely different skill sets. Richardson would be abused by Holloway in the paint from a strength standpoint.

No, it's not as relevant, because Shaq was never an expected member of our 2012-13 basketball team. I see your point, but that is a terrible comparison. Like I said, a valid argument could be made that you are tired of hearing how much we miss Maymon, and maybe that's what you're really saying, but we miss him all the same.

What we need is more penetration, better ball handlers and some occasional post play.

Fancier tricks around the rim couldn't hurt.

I'd like to see our boys use their length more effectively.

Per Rucker quoting cuonzo:

"Trae Golden has a lot more in the tank"

"Jordan McRae is still the Vols' starting PG for now"

No players have stepped up to say they want to guard Marshall Henderson

"Murphy Holloway is a much tougher matchup with Jeronne Maymon injured" (tired of this excuse)

cuonzo swears he never gave up 30 points to someone he's guarding - asst. pointed out that Michael Finley owned him.

And for the gem quote - "All the guys are competing hard. Sometimes you just are what you are". (very disappointed to hear the coach say this about his players)

Well your pissing and moaning never fails to disappoint.

That's like UK saying, ok Noel guard Pressey because you're our best defender, you just don't do it. You can't ask Richardson to guard post guys who are as big as holloway, just not remotely realistic.

If we did a Dane Bradshaw type fronting on Holloway, then possibly, but I don't believe our team has the basketball IQ to help out on backside defense.

I think over the last several games, we have seen quite a bit more lane penetration from the guards. This has in turn, opened up more space for Stokes to operate (if Kenny stayed out of the way, he'd have even more).

As for ball-handling, you either can or you can't, and the majority of our guys can't. It's not something you can change overnight. It's fixable, but not like a guy being out of position is fixable. It takes time and most often, a change in personnel.

Well put. It's not just an issue of putting your best defender on the other team's biggest offensive threat (which in OM's case is Henderson, not Holloway...but in any case).

We just have no one that really matches up well with Holloway (outside of Maymon...sorry IE 95). Even if Richardson could do it, you still want him guarding Henderson IMO.

Richardson will likely be on Henderson and Reese/Hall will draw holloway the majority if the time. Martin mentioned in his presser that Richardson was on Henderson last game and shut him down most of the game. However, when the PG summers started going off they put Richardson on him and that's when Henderson got going.

If Moore/Mcbee or golden can contain summers it'll really help our chances. Cut down on the Tos and rebound well and it'll be a good game.

looks to me version 2, that we went back to some of the old junk. Lazy passes 30 feet from the basket. Turnovers when you aren't even trying to make a play. Being passive against the presses and zone and trying to hold on to the ball rather than attack the pressure at its weak spots. Terrible handles. Terrible spacing. Terrible offensive game plan, again. Hell, we could barely make the lazy pass to the wing that serves no damn purpose.
They took it to the rack and attacked in the 2nd half and we sat back on our heels hoping someone else would do something.
We have no leaders on the court. The one with potential is Moore. Trae can't. Stokes is clueless right now. And Jordy still has too many mental lapses. Chasing Henderson tonight was the first time I've seen his effort lapse, but he was probably exhausted and his back is getting tired.
We have to be one of the worst ballhandling and passing teams in the country and that's highly disappointing and getting on my nerves a little.

I've seen some middle school teams handle the ball better. This has to be one of the worst ball handling teams that UT has ever put on the floor. And just mind numbing turnovers. Walks, stupid passes, lazy passes. At some point, it falls on the coaches to change it. Right now, this team isn't getting better.

For Martin's sake next year, he better hope Maymon comes back healthy and that Hubbs is all that and a bag of chips.
